ABC News will not renew Terry Moran’s contract, the New York Post reported on Tuesday, June 10.

The veteran journalist’s firing has been followed by his suspension following an Anti-Trump X post on Sunday, June 8. Moran was quick to delete his tweet but was handed a suspension (and later a termination) for reportedly violating ABC News’ policies. A source told the New York Post that Terry’s contract was ending this Friday. An ABC News spokesperson also said (via the New York Post),

“We are at the end of our agreement with Terry Moran and based on his recent post – which was a clear violation of ABC News policies – we have made the decision to not renew.”

The ABC News representative added,

“At ABC News, we hold all of our reporters to the highest standards of objectivity, fairness and professionalism, and we remain committed to delivering straightforward, trusted journalism.”

According to his bio on ABC News’ website, Terry Moran joined the network in 1997 and served in different roles. Over almost three decades, the journalist covered the US Supreme Court, anchored World News Tonight, co-hosted Nightline (2005-2013), and co-presented ABC News Live.

He was also the network’s Chief White House Correspondent (1999–2005) and Chief Foreign Correspondent (2013–2018) in London before becoming a Senior National Correspondent.

Terry Moran was born in Chicago and graduated with a BA in English from Lawrence University in 1982. Before joining ABC News in 1997, the journalist covered stories for The New Republic Magazine, The New York Times, and The Washington Post.

He was a reporter and anchor at Court TV for five years, covering the trials of O.J. Simpson and the Menendez Brothers, who also inspired the 2024 Netflix documentary of the same name.

On the personal front, he was married to Karen Osler, with whom he shares a child. According to The Washington Post, Terry Moran engaged his second wife, Johanna Cox, in 2015. The pair married the same year and share three kids, per their IMDb bios. Cox is known for her appearance on Stylista. She previously worked at The Economist and Elle.

Terry Moran criticized Stephen Miller and Donald Trump in his deleted X post

The ABC News journalist who lost his job over a social media post had called out the US President and White House Deputy Chief of Staff in his deleted tweet. Brian Stelter (@brianstelter), whose book Top of the Morning inspired AppleTV+’s The Morning Show, shared a screenshot of Terry Moran’s unavailable post on X.

According to the repost, the former Nightline co-anchor called Stephen Miller a “world-class hater” and used the exact phrase to describe Donald Trump. Moran famously interviewed the 47th President on the 100th day of his second term. During the April 2025 ABC News interview, Terry tried to fact-check one of Trump’s claims but was told,

“They're giving you the big break of a lifetime, you know, you are doing the interview. I picked you because frankly, I'd never heard of you, but that’s okay. I picked you, Terry, but you're not being very nice.”

Terry Moran has yet to react publicly after ABC News fired him on Tuesday. His wife, Johanna Cox, did comment via her Instagram Stories. She reshared a screenshot of someone’s post and wrote,

“easier right now to let others put words to these feelings. I just keep telling the kids how proud they should be of their dad. He tells the truth.”

Interestingly, Terry wrote on X in November last year about getting his prediction of Trump winning the elections right. Without endorsing either party, Moran explained his viewpoint and shared how he guessed the results of previous presidential races correctly as well.
