In the recent GQ video, Andrew Garfield, with his response about him and Tobey Maguire not returning as Spider-Man in Avengers: Doomsday, has made it crystal clear that we will not be seeing the duo in the upcoming film.

But years back, Garfield, who had starred as the superhero in the 2021 Spider-Man: No Way Home, had to deny his association with the film before its release in order not to ruin its anticipation. So now, at the beginning of this year, while speaking to GQ UK in January, this is what he mentioned when he was asked about the forthcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day:

“I’m gonna disappoint you. Yeah, no. But I know no one’s gonna trust anything I say from now on.”

At the same time, the actor is open to returning to the role of the superhero. After The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014), he was set to return in The Amazing Spider-Man 3, but the project was canceled.

Last year, in an interview with Esquire, Andrew Garfield mentioned his interest in playing the role again, as he stated:

“For sure, I would 100 percent come back if it was the right thing, if it’s additive to the culture, if there’s a great concept or something that hasn’t been done before that’s unique and odd and exciting and that you can sink your teeth into,”

Furthermore, he also expressed his love for the character of the superhero, as he added:

“I love that character, and it brings joy. If part of what I bring is joy, then I’m joyful in return.”

So, even if Andrew Garfield is not returning in Avengers: Doomsday, we can certainly hope for the actor's return as Spider-Man in the near future. Meanwhile, the upcoming, highly anticipated Marvel production will be directed by the Russo brothers.

Several superheroes of the MCU will be returning in this film. Some of them include:

  • Chris Hemsworth as Thor
  • Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America
  • Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic
  • Robert Downey Jr. as Victor von Doom / Doctor Doom
  • Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier
  • Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman
  • Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man
  • Letitia Wright as Shuri/Black Panther
  • Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S.Agent
  • Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm / The Thing
  • Tenoch Huerta Mejía as Namor
  • Simu Liu as Xu Shang-Chi
  • Kelsey Grammer as Hank McCoy / Beast
