This year is great for DC fans, as we get three DCU projects in the second half of this year. Supergirl, Clayface, and Lanterns. But that hasn't stopped the new cinematic universe from being in conversation amongst fans on the internet. One thing that many are discussing about the cinematic universe is the key locations throughout the cinematic universe.

The pages of DC are filled with iconic locations such as Metropolis, Gotham, Keystone City, Central City, Themyscira, Atlantis, and many more. The same applies to the DCU as well. While some of these locations appeared in other adaptations, Gunn and Safran's DC Universe is the second time that these locations exist in the same continuity.

But, as of now, DC Studios has confirmed 4 locations that will play a key role in the new DC Universe.

The behind-the-scenes book reveals four Key DCU locations:

Superman: The Art and Making of the Film, which is the behind-the-scenes book, revealed the four locations that will play a key role in this newly created DC Universe. These four locations are Metropolis, Gotham, Themyscira, and Palmera City. The last one is a surprising inclusion, as its hero is a niche character: Blue Beetle.

It only makes sense that we begin this list with the character who birthed the entire superhero genre. Every iteration of the Man of Steel protects Metropolis, and the same applies to the DCU version as well. We know what the DC Universe Metropolis looks like thanks to Superman, which flew into the theaters last Summer.

Now, we will see the city again in 2027's Man of Tomorrow, which is a sequel to last year's Summer blockbuster. James Gunn confirmed that the upcoming DCU movie will see Superman team up with Lex Luthor to ward off a greater threat, recently confirmed to be Brainiac. Gunn teased this in a Howard Stern interview Last September:

“It’s a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat. It’s more complicated than that, but that’s a big part of it. It’s as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie. I loved working with Nicholas Hoult. I relate to the character of Lex, sadly. I really wanted to create something extraordinary with the two of them. I just love the script so much."

Undoubtedly, the second key DCU location will be Gotham, the city that the Dark Knight protects. We have already caught a glimpse of Gotham in last year's Creature Commandos, and we will see the city in live-action in this October's Clayface. While fans got a silhouette of this continuity's Batman in Creature Commandos, we still don't know what he or his costume looks like.

It should be noted that Batman has not been cast yet. This is something James Gunn addressed in a June 2025 Rolling Stone interview:

"Batman’s my biggest issue in all of DC right now, personally. And it’s not — I’m not writing Batman, but I am working with the writer of Batman and trying to get it right, because he’s incredibly important to DC, as is Wonder Woman. So outside of the stuff that I’m doing in the projects that are actively going, our two priorities are finishing our Wonder Woman and our Batman scripts."
  • Themyscira

The women-only island that Princess Diana/Wonder Woman grew up in is undoubtedly one of the key locations in the DC Universe. Fans got the first live-action version of Themyscira in the now-defunct Zack Snyder DCEU. While we did not see the island physically, Creature Commandos does mention the island by name.

Apart from that, we also know that the new continuity's Wonder Woman movie will be written by Ana Nogueira.

  • Palmera City

Unlike other locations on this list, Palmera City was created for Blue Beetle (2023). However, the city also made its comic book debut just a few months before the movie's release. Palmera's inclusion is surprising because Blue Beetle is popular with fans who read the comics or watch the animated shows.

This city's inclusion seems to hint that Xolo Maridueña's Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle may play a bigger role in the DCU.

You can re-watch Creature Commandos, Superman, and Peacemaker Season 2 on HBO Max as we wait for Supergirl, Clayface, and Lanterns.
