Joanna Gaines' recent Instagram post has touched the hearts of many of her followers. The 47-year-old American interior decorator, author, and TV personality took to her official Instagram to share an emotional video of the last dinner with family before her two older kids resume college.

In the video, Joanna Gaines is surrounded by her family as they eat together. Another part shows them baking pizza, while another shows Gaines riding a white bike. She captioned the video:

“Gulp. Last dinner together before our oldest heads back to college and our second is about to leave home for her freshman year,” she wrote. “Thankful for the group hug and all the puppies to help me work through my wide range of emotions. And also Crew's motor bike, it made me feel like a kid again.”

She added:

“I love you kids so much.”

Joanna’s post quickly garnered several comments as a lot of moms showed their support and expressed their understanding.

One commented:

“@joannagaines I call it, “bittersweet miserable joy“. All we want our children to do is to have the confidence and capability of standing on their own 2 feet as an incredible young adult, but when they do, man, does it hurt your mama heart!♥️ Sending my prayers and love to you, sweet friend.”

Another wrote:

“Wow. Remember watching when they were just little tikes and Chip would swing by with the kiddos to see you on site. Where in the world does time go? Hang in there momma!!”

More details on Joanna Gaines' family

Joanna Gaines, born Joanna Lee Stephens, is a popular American interior decorator known for co-hosting the home renovation show Fixer Upper, alongside her husband Chip Gaines.

Chip and Joanna met in 2001 and married in 2003, in Waco. Their union of 22 years has produced five children: Drake, Ella, Duke, Emmie, and Crew.

Joanna Gaines' two oldest children, Drake Gaines, 20, and Ella Gaines, 18, are heading to college with Drake returning for his second year, and Ella will start her freshman year.

In November 2023, the Gaines couple opened up to the news outlet about how it felt to send off their child to college.

“I think the greatest gift of having a kid go off to college and having a five-year-old toddler, is kind of that perspective of it's not here forever,” Joanna Gaines told People in an exclusive. “Don't take it for granted, and cherish these moments. And that's what this five-year-old is teaching me.”

Joanna’s husband added that their eldest child going to college made them pay more attention to their youngest child, Crew, who was five at the time.

“Something about Drakey going off to college really does make you shift your attention to Crew, who's on the tail end of all this. And you're kind of living very intentionally because you know that — which is so hard to believe when you're holding a one-year-old — 'Oh, this time's going to go by quickly.'”

He added that Drake's leaving home made them realize how quickly time passed as they watched their children grow.

“Because it seems like time was standing still, at the time, but then when you see your boy go off to college for real — well then, you certainly shift your attention to little Crew, and want to really practically live as if he were going to go off to college tomorrow, so we can enjoy and appreciate every moment.”
