Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2, starring Robert Pattinson as Gotham's caped crusader, has found its official filming window, as per reports from Warner Bros. It will resume filming in spring 2026.

The film, dubbed The Batman: Part II, marks the return of Robert Pattinson in DC, after being introduced as the Dark Knight in 2022. Since its theatrical release, his fans have been eager to witness the next chapter of the gritty neo-noir set in Gotham. They will finally get to see it in October 2027, when the film is presently scheduled to release.

The update comes from Warner Bros.' shareholder letter, which was issued after the big success of James Gunn's Superman. Gunn's film began the DCU's journey in cinemas, earning more than $550 million. After addressing it, the letter spoke about The Batman 2, stating,

“‘The Batman II’ (2027) is preparing to begin shooting next spring, among several other projects in development."

The company is delighted with the positive results of the recent DC offerings. Addressing the same, the letter said,

“DC Studio’s universe of characters represents not only one of Warner Bros. Discovery’s most valuable pieces of intellectual property, but one of the most valuable assets in entertainment.”

Robert Pattinson will continue the brooding saga that started in 2022, but he won't be a part of the DCU slate that James Gunn has been working on since taking charge of the DC studio with Peter Safran. Gunn is planning to cast another actor to play the mythical hero in his interconnected cinematic universe, reportedly through Andrés Muschietti's The Brave and the Bold.

Despite that, Pattinson will get to reprise the role after the 2022 smash hit, which reportedly earned $772 million at the global box office. Matt Reeves will also direct the sequel, set to be released in 2027. It was reportedly delayed because of DC's new creative strategy that wants the script to be finished before production, unlike Marvel, where scripts are also developed during a film's production.

After a long wait, on June 27, the screenplay was reportedly completed. Reeves shared a photo of himself on his social media, with the finished draft, while sitting next to fellow screenwriter Mattson Tomlin. Later, Warner Bros. confirmed this detail, as per Variety.

Apart from Pattinson as the central vigilante, Colin Farrell is expected to return as Oz Cobb (The Penguin) in The Batman 2, alongside Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth.

In the letter mentioned above, Warner Bros. also spoke about DC projects besides The Batman 2. It said,

"In film, James Gunn is busy preparing the next installments of the DC super family, including ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ (2026), ‘Clayface’ (2026), and the next ‘Wonder Woman.’"

The letter further said,

"The 10-year vision for the DC universe also includes an exciting array of television projects, including ‘The Penguin,’ the upcoming new season of ‘Peacemaker,’ and the debut of ‘Lanterns’ in 2026. In a precise and measured way, the DC franchise will increasingly overlay across the studio’s broader efforts: from film and TV to consumer products, games, experiences, and social.”

The Batman 2 is expected to be released in theaters in October 2027.
