The upcoming Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried starrer The Housemaid is coming to the theaters on 19th December 2025.

This film is based on the 2022 novel of the same name by author Freida McFadden. Helmed by Paul Feig, who is known for directing films such as Bridesmaids (2011), Ghostbusters (2016), A Simple Favor film series (2018, 2025), and many more, is coming with this new psychological thriller film.

Release and streaming details of The Housemaid

The Housemaid is set to hit theaters in the United States just days before Christmas, on December 19, 2025.

Along with the U.S., the film will be released in many other countries, too. Here are the release dates of other countries:

An important point to note is that, in the UK, the film shall have a limited theatrical release.

The film is distributed by Lionsgate and produced by Hidden Pictures and Feigco. From Hidden Pictures, Todd Lieberman serves as producer, with Carly Kleinbart Elter supervising the project. Paul Feig, who also directs, produces the film under Feigco alongside Laura Fischer.

For the role of executive producer, we have the author Freida McFadden, along with Alex Young, joined by the lead stars Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney.

The streaming details of The Housemaid have not been disclosed yet.

In The Housemaid, Sydney Sweeney portrays the role of Millie, who works as a housemaid for the wealthy Winchester family.

What could be the plot of The Housemaid?

The film follows Millie, who hopes to leave her past behind and start anew as a housemaid for the wealthy Winchester family. But she soon discovers that the family harbors dark secrets. As these hidden truths gradually come to light, Millie becomes entangled in a web of suspense, driving the story forward in this nail-biting thriller.

Its synopsis, as per Rotten Tomatoes, goes as follows:

Trying to escape her past, Millie (Sweeney) accepts a job as a live-in housemaid for the wealthy Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew Winchester (Brandon Sklenar). But what begins as a dream job quickly unravels into something far more dangerous -- a sexy, seductive game of secrets, scandal, and power. Behind the Winchesters' closed doors lies a world of shocking twists that will leave you guessing until the very end.

While speaking to People Magazine, Amanda Seyfried talks about the film by stating:

"The film captures everything fans loved about the book — the secrets, the tension and the twists. We can’t wait for audiences to immerse themselves in the experience."
