What happened on the 'Hannah Montana' set? Miley Cyrus says she took the blame for her dad's pot use

Recently, Miley Cyrus, the actor and singer, shared on an episode of the Sorry We’re Cyrus podcast about how she was blamed for her dad, Billy Ray, using pot on the set of the teen sitcom, Hannah Montana, which aired from 2006- 2011.

In the sitcom, her real-life father, Billy Ray, played the role of her onscreen father, too. On the podcast, hosted by her mother, Tish, and her sister, Brandi Cyrus, Miley was asked during a series of rapid-fire questions about one of her core memories during the Hannah Montana days that still makes her laugh. She replied, saying:

''Dad smoking pot and everyone blaming me for it.''

During the recent episode of Sorry We’re Cyrus podcast titled, Miley Cyrus Unfiltered: Bangerz to Something Beautiful & Her Mom’s Life-Changing Advice, Miley revealed how she was blamed for her dad using pot on set.

Her mom, Tish, recalled on the podcast being told "B‑Ray was smoking pot", but she initially refused to believe it, even suspecting co-star Mitchel Musso instead.

Miley then added:

''Well, it was Mitchell. It was both.''

For context, Mitchel Musso played the role of Oliver Oken, a best friend to Miley Cyrus's character, Miley Stewart, in the show Hannah Montana.

This was one of the lighthearted anecdotes Miley shared on the podcast, which she says she still finds hilarious. Musso replied to the story about people thinking he was involved in smoking, shared by Miley on the podcast to EW. He said:

''Honestly, this made me laugh. That's not how I remember it… and I've got plenty of stories from those years that might be worth having a conversation about. If we're revisiting Hannah Montana history — just say the word. Receipts. All love to Miley and the fam… even when the rewrites get this creative.''

Miley's father, Billy Ray, had not yet commented on him using pot on the set. Miley's parents, Billy and Tish, separated in 2022. Tish married actor Dominic Purell in 2023, and Billy married the singer Firerose, although they divorced in August 2024.

Miley released her ninth studio album, Something Beautiful, in May 2025. It is also a visual album accompanied by a musical film that goes by the same name. It had premiered at the Tribeca Festival on June 6 and hit theaters on June 12, 2025.

She also released the song, End of the World, first single, More to Lose, as the second single, and Easy Lover, as the third and final single as part of the Something Beautiful album. Along with releasing her own music, she also made a surprise appearance during Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter Tour stop in Paris on Thursday, June 19, 2025.
