Miley Cyrus shared candid details about her family. On June 10, 2025, she was on the Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky podcast. Discussing fame and personal growth, Cyrus shared that her family went through a tough and distant period over the past decade, where some members weren’t talking to each other.
This year, they worked on rebuilding their relationships and communication. She mentioned that during her parents’ divorce, she stayed close to her mom. Over time, she realized how important it was to deal with emotional issues as they came up, because if left unresolved, they can pile up and become overwhelming.
She compared it to emotional hoarding, saying it eventually became such a mess that it was hard to even know where to begin. Reconnecting brought more happiness and made it easier for them to talk things through. When Lewinsky asked if they had to go for family counseling, Miley Cyrus said:
“We're so messy we didn't even do any of that. We just all started going you know to get each other in a room to even get to counseling would have been a war right. So, it was easier to just go white flag. I mean I even wrote a song about it.”
Miley Cyrus went on:
“Wrote this song about my dad because I wanted him to tell me even though there were secrets even though I didn't really want to know I wanted to be the one he felt safe enough to tell me the things that were damning and damaging to the family. But I wanted him to think that as a middle child I'm old enough that I could take some of that.”
Miley Cyrus said her father is an intelligent person who sounds like an “English major”
Miley Cyrus shared that her longtime therapist understood her well, especially knowing that she had a competitive side. He once told her to aim for something he called “brain envy,” meaning she should think in a way that others admire so much they start to adopt that mindset themselves.
Similar to seeing someone with great style can inspire someone to try a new look, she hoped her way of thinking could positively influence others. She tried to be the kind of person whose thought process others might want to follow until it became part of their own. Speaking of her father, Miley Cyrus said:
“My dad is probably one of the most well-spoken and intelligent, you sit and have a conversation with him he sounds like an English major. He spells things wrong you know but it doesn't matter because what he's saying is so poetic.”
She added:
“He's so smart and so when somebody has that level of intelligence but they're also very intuitive cause my dad's a very spiritual person. Intelligence and intuition sometimes when they get mixed can be very deceiving.”
Miley Cyrus believed that politicians and celebrities often boosted each other’s influence. She felt celebrity endorsements were a big deal in political campaigns. She also thought that in the world of fame, especially for women, staying relatable was crucial; otherwise, people could lose interest or reject them.
