Stand-up comedian and actor Jeff Dye has taken down his GoFundMe after facing backlash for launching the fundraiser to help him move out of Los Angeles. Titled “Get Jeff Dye Out of LA,” it had a goal of $26,000.

“Comedian Jeff Dye is making the bold move from California to Texas to dive deeper into the comedy scene and connect with like-minded individuals,” the GoFundMe description read.
It continued, “This journey is driven by a passion for comedy and a desire to find a community that shares his creative vision. Join us in supporting Jeff as he embarks on this exciting new chapter!”

The crowdfunding came two weeks after Dye appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience and shared that he was preparing to relocate to Texas as he was “scared” by California Governor Gavin Newsom’s leadership. Back then, it sparked a controversy which was fuelled by the comedian’s GoFundMe.

Here are a few reactions from X.

“Lol, being a failed comedian turned right-wing grifter is embarrassing enough, but being so bad at it that you have to beg for money to move? Man, I think I’d just pack it in forever,” a netizen wrote.
“Please tell me this is a joke. (The GoFundMe, not the move),” another netizen wrote.
“Can’t really think of a single reason a person who can afford to live in Los Angeles couldn’t afford to live in Texas on their own accord without begging for donations,” a user wrote.

Others supported his move and contributed to the now-defunct fundraiser.

“I just donated $5. California is trash. I’m stuck here because my wife has her dream job. One day, we’ll be free too. Living vicariously through you for now,” the individual wrote.

Jeff Dye appears to have deleted his post on X appealing for donations. His GoFundMe page is also non-existent, as of writing.

What did Jeff Dye say on Joe Rogan’s podcast?

Jeff Dye sat down with Joe Rogan on November 2, where he expressed his concern about the Newsom administration.

“I’m kind of in this kind of LA thing, and I could be guilty of being a victim of what I’m absorbing in my algorithm. But Gavin Newsom scares the sh*t out of me and I don’t want to be a part of it,” Dye stated.

He mentioned being alarmed by the California government’s response to the January 2025 wildfires in Los Angeles.

“Those fires were quite a wake-up call. Even if you know, whatever you believe about the fires, the way it was dealt with was pretty scary… Even the aftermath,” Jeff continued as Joe appeared to agree with him.

Elsewhere, the comedian shared that he was buying a house in Texas and also called out those who declared during the 2024 election season that they would leave the USA if Donald Trump became the President.

Jeff Dye explained that while he respects Rosie O’Donnell and Ellen DeGeneres for actually going through with the moves, it was “dumb” as they won’t be able to “vote” anymore. However, the former MTV host added that other celebrities threatened to “leave” but “didn’t” and called out their hypocrisy.

In his now-removed GoFundMe, Jeff Dye called Los Angeles a “liberal cesspool” that is no longer worth being a part of. He also mentioned being unwilling to pay his “tax dollars” to a state that he’d “lost hope in.”

An old tweet by the comedian has resurfaced amid the GoFundMe drama. In the 2018 post, Dye referred to 90 per cent of GoFundMe as “organized begging.” He added that while he was ready to contribute to emergencies, he wasn’t willing to participate in online panhandling.
