Michael Douglas explained his reasons for taking a break from acting
Michael Douglas is 80 years old and announced in a recent press conference at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the Czech Republic that he has "no intentions" of returning to acting again. The Wall Street actor said:
"'I have not worked since 2022 purposefully because I realized I had to stop."
In another interview with Variety, Douglas said:
"I had been working pretty hard for almost 60 years, and I did not want to be one of those people who dropped dead on the set."
However, later on, the actor clarified what he meant when he said he had "no intentions" of going back to acting. He explained:
"I have no real intentions of going back. I say I'm not retired because if something special came up, I'd go back, but otherwise, no."
He humorously added that the only "role" he still likes to play. Douglas, who has been married to Catherine Zeta-Jones since 2000, added that he is only "happy to play the wife" to his wife "in the spirit of maintaining a good marriage."
While Douglas took a break from acting in films, he has been spending more time producing them. In 1997, he founded "Further Films," which is an indie production company. During an interview with Deadline, he said:
"It was overwhelming running the production company and acting at the same time."
