Late American hip-hop and neo-soul singer Angie Stone had a daughter named Diamond Stone, whom he shared with her ex-husband, Rodney Stone. Diamond, 41, is a musician and a mother.

When Angie Stone, 63, died in a fatal car accident in Montgomery, Alabama, on March 1, 2025, her daughter was the first to share the news online. Diamond Stone took to Facebook and wrote with multiple crying emojis:

“My mommy is gone.”

Later, Angie’s representative Deborah R. Champagne confirmed the news with TMZ. As it happened, the Sequence member was returning from a Mardi Gras concert with her bandmates in a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van from Atlanta to Alabama when it overturned on Interstate 65.

Unfortunately, while the soul icon and others were trying to exit the vehicle, they got hit by a semi-trailer truck. Angie Stone, who was also a songwriter, rapper, record producer, and actress, was the sole fatality.

Now, seven months later, Angie’s former partner and R&B icon, Michael “D’Angelo” Archer, has died after a prolonged cancer battle in New York City on October 14, 2025. D’Angelo was 51.

Angie Stone began dating Rodney Stone, aka Li'l Rodney C! of the hip-hop group Funky Four Plus One, in 1980. Three years later, they tied the knot. In 1984, their only child, Diamond Stone, was born. A few years later the couple was divorced.

Later, Angie named her debut solo album, Black Diamond, after her daughter. It was released in September 1999.

According to Hollywood Life, Diamond Stone provided background vocals on her mother’s 2007 song, Baby. She is now a singer and songwriter, and a mother of two children, born in 2008 and 2012.

Angie and Diamond Stone made headlines in 2015 after reports of their physical altercation surfaced. Back then, NME reported that the daughter allegedly punched her mother in the face, and the Mahogany Soul artist hit Diamond with a metal stand, seemingly in self-defence.

In the wake of the incident, Angie was taken into custody in DeKalb County, Atlanta, for domestic aggravated assault.

Reportedly, the mother-daughter duo stayed together alongside Angie’s only son, Michael D’Angelo Archer II, also known by his stage name Swayvo Twain. Michael Jr, 28, is the son of Stone and D’Angelo.

In September 2024, Angie Stone mentioned her daughter in one of her YouTube videos, later shared on Instagram.

Three days after Stone’s demise in March, Michael and Diamond shared a joint statement paying tribute to their mother on her Instagram.

“It is with heavy hearts that the children of the R&B singer Angie Stone, along with her extended family, want to thank you all for your love and well wishes during what is an extremely difficult time,” it read.

The message continued,

“Diamond and Michael, along with the rest of Angie's family, want to thank you for reaching out, but also asked that you respect their privacy as they grieve the loss of their beloved mother.”

At the time, the siblings arranged for a funeral and memorial services to honor Angie’s “life, music, and legacy.” They also called their mother a “pioneer of rap music” and a “champion” of the Black community, who gave back to her fans via her foundation, Angel Stripes.
