Irish music icon Hozier is currently trending after claims surfaced on social media that his girlfriend, Hana Mayeda, liked and commented under pro-Donald Trump posts. Mayeda is a Los Angeles-based model, integrative nutrition health coach, and yoga instructor, according to Evoke.

The posts that have now gone viral across TikTok, Reddit, and X show Hana reportedly liking a post with Trump’s picture and the caption that mocks how the POTUS was seemingly against the gay and Black communities, as well as women’s rights.

A particular comment attributed to Hana Mayeda about “legal immigration” has also garnered traction. Posted by a TikToker, it showed Hozier’s girlfriend reportedly commenting on a Facebook post with a Washington Examiner article headlined, “Report: Record 14.45M illegal immigrants in US, cost $133.7B.”

Under it, someone named Hana Mayeda commented,

“Legal immigration can be a wonderful thing. My grandparents worked hard to come here. My father was a patriot who fought in WWII and left a beautiful legacy. Vets are panhandling and in pain while our government panders to people who didn’t have the decency to come here using the proper channels.

The comment continued,

“My father would be gutted to see how our troops are left to dust as throwaways while our taxes support illegals.” In the wake of these anti-immigrant and pro-Trump likes and comments, both Hozier and Mayeda are facing backlash.

While he hasn’t addressed the matter yet, his girlfriend has come forward and cleared the air, once and for all. She denied ever making these remarks or likes. Taking to Instagram on September 1, she wrote:

“The posts, likes, and comments attributed to me that have been circulating in the past hours are demonstrably fabricated. I trust people will see them for the obvious falsehoods that they are.”

Hana Mayeda also clarified that, as a “daughter of an immigrant family,” it is “abhorrent that racist, anti-immigrant rhetoric and Trump support” were projected onto her name.

All you need to know about Hozier’s girlfriend, Hana Mayeda

According to Evoke, Hana Mayeda is a model who is known for working with the luxury lingerie brand, Victoria’s Secret. She is also a wellness and lifestyle coach licensed and certified by the Institute of Integrative Nutrition in 2015.

Hana has been represented by a Paris and New York City-based modelling agency called Marilyn Agency since 2008, as per her LinkedIn bio. She also worked as Director of Development at English in Mind, a nonprofit based in Haiti’s Port-Au-Prince between 2014 and 2016.

Mayeda, who is also a yoga instructor, is a native of Santa Monica, California, and is now based in Los Angeles. She attended the University of San Diego and is active on Instagram, where she has amassed over 19.2K followers.

Hana Mayeda has been in a long-term relationship with Hozier. In July 2023, a fan of the singer discovered him in one of Hana’s social media posts, titled “Unexpected magic in Italy.” It sparked romance speculations as the photo in question was one where Mayeda was seen kissing a man resembling the Grammy nominee. The fan even wrote, “Is that Hozier in slide 3?”

However, Hozier stepped up in a since-removed comment. He wrote that he would “feel really great” if people were to “refrain from carrying out a conversation like this on my gf’s personal page.”

Mayeda also weighed in and thanked everyone for their “kindness and decency online,” adding it was “very much appreciated.”

In April this year, the couple made their red-carpet debut at the TIME 100 Gala in NYC.

Hana Mayeda has shot back at her online bullies

The likes and comments recently attributed to Hana Mayeda not only portrayed her as pro-Trump and anti-immigrant, but also anti-Palestine, anti-LGBTQIA+, anti-Muslim, and racist. However, she has since fired back at the trolls.

“It is saddening to see the extent some will go to, including the signal boosting of deeply harmful rhetoric against vulnerable communities for the sake of undermining Andrew’s messaging, my character, and our relationship,” Mayeda wrote.

Calling the posts “fabricated” and carrying “obvious falsehoods,” she continued that she fully supports trans rights and justice, freedom, and liberation for the Palestinians. She also denied supporting Trump’s anti-immigration policies.

“A real tragedy to me is that these falsehoods seek to undermine voices (including my partner’s) that support these issues, and are willing to bring further harm to vulnerable people by promoting a false sense of consensus against them. There’s so much hatred in the world right now, please use your voices for good,” she concluded.

Hana signed her post and thanked her followers who had stood by her and shown “kindness and goodwill.” She also explained that her statement was issued to put an end to the ongoing confusion.
