Veteran actor Ron Dean has passed away at the age of 87. The news was announced by his partner, Maggie Neff, in a statement:

"He passed at exactly 4pm, after his beloved sisters had said their goodbyes. He hung on like a warrior to say goodbye to his little sisters. Then we were alone, and in my arms, I held his hand, and he trusted me when I told him that it was alright to let go. What an honor!"

Dean's friend, Andrew Davis, giving tribute to Dean, said in a statement:

"Ron Dean was my dear friend and a tremendous actor. He was the essence of what Chicago talent represented. Having a very troubled youth Ron turned his life around to have a wonderful career as a loving, decent human being and respected talent."

Dean was born on August 15, 1938, in Chicago and joined the entertainment industry in 1976. He was known for taking on roles as detectives and cops. A graduate of the DeKalb School of the Arts, he developed an early passion for performance.

Ron Dean's best works

Ron was in the industry for about thirty years, performing in many famous movies like The Fugitive, The Breakfast Club, The Dark Knight, and Above the Law. His first credited project, according to IMDb, was The Last Affair.

Soon after, the actor got roles in many projects like Pink Nights, Nothing In Common, Fatal Encounter, and Cold Justice. He shared the screen with Tom Cruise in three films, which include Cocktail, Risky Business, and The Color of Money.

Alongside, he also played roles in TV series like Perfect Strangers and Angel Street. He last appeared in a TV series, Chicago P.D., released in 2016.

His performance in Supple in Combat at Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre Company earned him a Joseph Jefferson Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

Admiring Dean, Maggie Neff said in a statement:

"It’s hard to capture what an extraordinary human being Ron was. One glamorous woman friend of Ron’s once told me that she’d rather grab a hot dog with Ron Dean than have a fancy dinner with some rich bloke. I have always felt the same way."
