Who survives Jane Etta Pitt? A look at Brad Pitt's family following his mother's death at 84

Jane Etta Pitt, the mother of the Primetime Emmy Award winner, Brad Pitt, died on August 5, 2025, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of 84. The news of her passing was shared on August 6, 2025, by Brad's niece, Sydney, on Instagram, where she said:

''My sweet Grammy, Jane Etta, we were not ready for you to go yet but knowing you are finally free to sing, dance, and paint again makes it a tad easier.''

She is survived by her husband William Alvin “Bill” Pitt, her three children, including sons Brad Pitt, Doug Pitt, who is a businessman and philanthropist, and daughter Julie Neal, and fourteen grandchildren, including Brad's children with Angelina Jolie, Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox, and Vivienne.

Doug has Sydney, Landon, and Regan with his wife Lisa, and Julie is a mother to Caleb, twin daughters Josie and Rylie, as well as adopted sons Caden and Cruz, with her husband Scott Neal, as per the Daily Mail.


Jane Etta Pitt dies at 84

Jane was born on August 13, 1940, in Memphis, Tennessee, and was a former educator. She went to Oklahoma Baptist University, where she met her husband, William Alvin “Bill” Pitt, who was a basketball player back in the day. She then married him in 1962, and they shared three children, as per Jane's obituary posted online.

She was a dedicated member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Springfield, and she followed and lived according to the teachings of Jesus Christ with strong belief and devotion. Her obituary also states that art was her favorite way to express herself. She shared this love with her grandchildren by doing crafts and painting together. She was called ''Grammy'' by her grandchildren. She also made each grandchild feel special by spending time with them individually on something she called “Your Special Day.''

In the emotional tribute posted by one of her grandchildren on Instagram. It reads:

''She taught me how to paint, how to be strong, how to lead with kindness, to love Jesus through everything, and to find joy in the smallest things. She made up the silliest games just to make us laugh, and she believed in fairness, in putting others first, and doing good simply because it was the right thing to do.''

As per reports, Pitt was also involved in community work in Ethiopia. She visited the country and formed a deep connection with the people there, particularly in Korah, a poor community in Addis Ababa. One of Jane's granddaughters continues to work for those communities.

A private life of celebration will be held for her at a date that is not disclosed as of yet.
