Popular basketball player Paul Pierce has found himself embroiled in a DUI controversy. On Tuesday, October 8, 2025, the Hall of Famer was arrested by the California Highway Patrol after he was caught sleeping at the wheel of his SUV.
This incident happened around 10:30 p.m. on the 101 Freeway. According to the CHP, they had just responded to a multi-vehicle crash on the northbound side of the San Fernando Valley Road when they noticed an immobile vehicle.
After reaching the vehicle, they discovered Paul Peirce sleeping in the car with signs of being under the influence of alcohol.
“When officers approached, they found the driver, later identified as Paul Pierce, asleep at the wheel. Officers noted signs of alcohol impairment and conducted a DUI investigation,” CHP said in a statement.
The CHP arrested Paul on suspicion of driving under the influence. As per the statement shared by TMZ, the case will be transferred to the Los Angeles office for review.
Paul is no longer in custody. He was released after he was cited.

On September 25, 2000, the basketball was stabbed 11 times in the neck, face, and back. A bottle was also smashed on his head while at the Bizz Club. His life was saved after he was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by his teammate, Tony Battie.
The NBA player donated $2.5 million to Tufts-New England Medical Center almost three years after the incident. He said it was “an opportunity for me to give back to the hospital that was there for me when I needed it.”
