The Lost Daughter star, Dakota Johnson, recently appeared in a YouTube talk show, Hot Ones, hosted by Sean Evans. In the show that aired on June 12, 2025, Dakota spoke about the present state of Hollywood, particularly the industry's dependence on making only sequels or remakes.

On the show, she described that when a film does well, the studios continue to make its remakes instead of creating something new and creative. She said:

''When something does well, studios want to keep that going so they remake the same things, but humans don’t want that. They want fresh, they want to feel new things, experience new things, see new things, so I don’t know, I guess it’s all just a bit of a mess right now, isn’t it?''

Dakota Johnson shares her views on Hollywood on a talk show

The Cha Cha Real Smooth actress, Johnson, recently appeared on the talk show Hot Ones to promote her romantic comedy film, Materialists, directed by Celine Song, and set to release on June 13, 2025.

During the show, the host Sean Evans asked Johnson about why she feels that Hollywood is so risk-averse, as she is someone who has seen the industry closely. She answered this by saying:

''I think it’s hard when creative decisions are made by committee and it’s hard when creative decisions are made by people who don’t even really watch movies or know anything about them, and that tends to be what’s occurring a lot.''

She then spoke about how remakes and sequels are often done, and people aren't really fond of it, as they wish to see and experience new things. Johnson had recently starred in the superhero film Madame Web, which didn't do well. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, as per Yard Barker, Dakota said that the film being a flop wasn't her fault. This is what she said:

''It wasn’t my fault. There’s this thing that happens now where a lot of creative decisions are made by committee. Or made by people who don’t have a creative bone in their body. And it’s really hard to make art that way. Or to make something entertaining that way.''

She continued:

''And I think unfortunately with Madame Web, it started out as something and turned into something else. And I was just sort of along for the ride at that point. But that happens. Bigger-budget movies fail all the time.''

She then also said that she wasn't sad or upset about the flim flopping. She said:

''There’s no part of me that’s like, ‘Oh, I’ll never do that again’ to anything. I’ve done even tiny movies that didn’t do well. Who cares?''

Johnson will be seen in Materialists, alongside Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal.
