Before the performance, Jennifer told E! News:

"I've been rehearsing for a couple of weeks on the number. So I'm excited about that."

After the performance, which ran for around six minutes, Jennifer Lopez also talked about her thoughts behind the dance and choreography by saying:

"I had to kick things off by turning it up to the biggest songs of the year and dancing my heart out for all of you, but tonight, the spotlight belongs to you, because this is the world’s largest fan-voted award show where you decide the winners"

Jennifer Lopez last hosted the American Music Awards in 2015. This year’s event marked her much-anticipated return to the role after a decade.
