American actor and DJ Cameron Douglas, son of Oscar-winning actor and film producer Michael Douglas, made a rare public appearance at the New York City premiere of Looking Through Water alongside an unidentified woman, Daily Mail reported.

Reportedly, Cameron, 46, is starring in the film alongside his father, Michael, 80, and actors David Morse and Walker Scobell. He arrived at NYC’s DGA Theater wearing a green tailored suit, paired with a V-neck black t-shirt, a gold chain, sunglasses, and mismatched black and white trainer shoes.

While Cameron Douglas began his acting career in 1997, it came to a sudden halt after he was arrested in 2007 and charged with felony cocaine possession. Three years later, he was again taken into custody for meth possession and charged with intent to distribute.

Subsequently, Cameron spent several years in prison and was released in 2016. He later credited his father, Michael, and stepmother, Catherine Zeta-Jones, for never giving up on him.

Exploring the legal issues of Cameron Douglas over the years

In 2007, cops detained Cameron Douglas after they found a syringe of liquid cocaine in his car. At the time, he was arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance in California and pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of disorderly conduct.

Later, in 2009, the Mr. Nice Guy actor was rearrested by the DEA for possession of 8 ounces of meth at his hotel room in the upscale Gansevoort in Manhattan, NYC. Due to the large amount of the drug, Cameron was charged with felony intent to distribute in 2010.

While he was put on house arrest, he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possession of heroin and the painkiller Suboxone. In April of that year, the Santa Barbara native was sentenced to five years in prison.

At the time, his father, Michael Douglas, blamed himself for being a “bad father” and told the media that if his son wasn’t imprisoned, he would be “dead or somebody was gonna kill him.”

The Wall Street star added about his son, “I think he has a chance to start a new life, and he knows that.”

In 2011, Cameron Douglas pleaded guilty to smuggling drugs in prison, and his sentence was extended. However, in August 2016, he was released early and transferred to a halfway house in New York City.

According to Daily Mail, the Loaded actor began using drugs during his youth, which was part of a 2015 legal brief filed in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, while he was behind bars.

During a 2018 interview with The Mail on Sunday, Cameron Douglas shared that the first night of his incarceration felt like a “bad dream.” However, over the years, “the dream carried on and got worse.” However, he acknowledged that his family “never gave up on me,” especially his stepmom and actress Catherine Zeta-Jones.

“I lived a nightmare for seven years, but the love of my family never wavered,” he added.

In October 2019, Cameron released his memoir, Long Way Home, where he documented his drug addiction, calling it a “demented death wish” that nearly got him killed, and his unwillingness to attend rehabs. He also wrote about his arrest, indictment, and time in prison.

Cameron Douglas is the son of Michael Douglas and his ex-wife, documentary film producer and philanthropist Diandra Morrell Luker. He has two stepbrothers, Dylan and Carys, whom Michael shares with his second wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones.

He is himself a father to two kids, daughter Lua (born in 2017), and son Ryder (born in 2020). Cameron shares his children with his ex-girlfriend, yoga instructor Viviane Thibes.

The grandson of Kirk Douglas and Diana Webster shared the screen with his father, Michael Douglas, in the 2003 movie, It Runs in the Family. He will star next in Blood Knot, also featuring his dad.
