The singer’s fans interpreted the comment as a direct shade thrown at her former boyfriend Joe Alwyn. Taylor Swift reportedly wrote 32 songs about Alwyn, whom she dated from 2016 to 2023. One of such songs was 2019’s Paper Rings where the singer sings:
"I like shiny things, but I’d marry you with paper rings.”
