Peter Rosenberg recently called Nicki Minaj's verse on the 2010 track Monster by Kanye West overrated. The critic commented on an X post on December 23, 2025, stating:

"Is today the day we can admit the monster verse is the most overrated verse in hip hop history lol?'"

This comment has since then generated backlash from netizens, with many taking to social media to express their sentiments regarding this comment, as exemplified by the tweets quoted below:

"G….you just tryna go viral now huh?"
"Now he’s trying to push this narrative that she’s not a good rapper? These people don’t care about politics. They could all be voting republicans in real time. But this is just another disguise tweet to push an industry narrative." one netizen stated.
"Us disliking Nicki rn has NOTHING to do with her talent…this is why they’re off radio now ain’t know a DAMN THING abt music but they sure knew how to gossip." another netizen reacted.

One netizen pointed out the contradiction of Rosenberg's new comment, pointing out that Rosenberg had previously praised the same verse on his X account:

"Also Rosenberg: People really need to start questioning the credibility of voices like this. When someone openly praises Nicki Minaj’s work, calling her verses “fire” and her albums complete bodies of work & then later pivots to dismissing or downplaying the very performances they once celebrated, it raises questions about consistency and intent. You can critique art, but constantly reframing the narrative depending on the moment isn’t honest analysis, it’s revisionism" the netizen stated.
"Nah, we not gonna do that, lol. Muddying the waters to the real Nicki criticism seems unwarranted, chill!" one commenter stated.
"Oh yall just grasping for straws at this point. Baby the music was never an issue!" another commenter opined.

Peter Rosenberg has been critical of Nicki Minaj's music before

Peter Rosenberg has been critical of Nicki Minaj's music before. He previously criticised Nicki Minaj's 2012 hit song Starship as not really being hip-hop, leading to Minaj withdrawing from a show at the Hot 97 Summer Jam in 2012.

Subsequently, the two had a sit-down on Hot 97, with Nicki Minaj criticising Rosenberg at their meeting, saying to him:

"To me, I just don't know your resume. I never found you funny, I never found you entertaining, I never found you smart, I just found you annoying. Because I grew up in New York, I've grown up on Hot 97... I was like 'who are you?' To me you don't have enough of a resume to make those comments, but you know, you did, and it is what it is."

It is unclear what prompted this latest bout of criticism from Peter Rosenberg. Peter Rosenberg was recently terminated from Hot 97, alongside Ebro Darden. Peter Rosenberg spoke about his experience on the new podcast The Ebro Laura Rosenberg Show, stating that he hadn't been expecting the kind of termination he got:

"The only thing that bugged me is the way it went down was just so classic radio. I just didn’t expect it at this stage of my career to get the, ‘Hey, this is so-and-so, I’m here with so-and-so from legal... “Peter, today is going to be your last day. You’ve been terminated,”.. that wording after nearly 20 joints was crazy."

Alongside his work for Hot 97, Rosenberg is also known as a panelist on wrestling pre-shows. He has also released two mixtapes as a musician in 2011 and 2013, respectively.
