General Hospital's Brook Kerr excited to play Portia's new baby drama

On General Hospital, Dr. Portia Robinson has had an affair and caused who’s-the-daddy-drama before.

Her daughter Trina (Tabyana Ali) is the product of an affair she had with Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) while she was married to the long-forgotten Marcus Taggert (Réal Andrews).

Now, it seems Portia is pregnant again after her current fling with Dr. Isaiah Gannon (Sawandi Wilson) while her marriage with Curtis is on thin ice. Portia and Curtis were also shown doing the deed recently.

Portia has a new pregnancy to manage on General Hospital

Portia’s portrayer, Brook Kerr, spoke to Soap Opera Digest about the reveal in the October 7th episode, when Portia saw a positive result on her home pregnancy test and then had awkward encounters with both Curtis and Isaiah.

The positive test comes on the heels of her blackmail battle with Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison), though she doesn’t know that Trina and Kai (Jens Austin Astrup) have the paperwork that Drew was keeping as proof that Portia had altered Heather Webber’s (Alley Mills) test results. Kerr told SOD she played Portia’s reaction as shock and the feeling of adding more stress.

“There is no way,” Kerr said. “This is not going to add on to the stack of things I have to deal with. The timing of this with my relationship being over and then getting pregnant? No, it just can’t be.”

Kerr said General Hospital Executive Director Frank Valentini told her that her character was going to be pregnant while she was in between scenes. Kerr said she is looking forward to playing a pregnancy.

“It’s so beautiful to have a child on a show, you know?” Kerr said. “It’s all these new things to play. And Trina’s going to be a big sister! There were all sorts of things flooding through my mind for about 10 seconds — and then I had to go shoot some other doctor stuff!”

Kerr said that Portia is really disappointed in herself for getting into a dual-daddy dilemma once again. She acknowledged that Portia isn’t likely to tell anyone about her pregnancy right away while she processes the new direction in her life.

Isaiah’s portrayer, Sawandi Wilson, is hyping up the daddy drama on social media. He shared clips from two fan accounts on his Instagram Stories that showed a scene between Isaiah and Portia from the October 7th episode. On one of them was a poll asking followers to weigh in on who the daddy is, Curtis or Isaiah.

Whatever develops in the coming weeks, Kerr is grateful for having another spotlight story on the General Hospital canvas.

“It’s very humbling because it means that the writers are trusting me and they’re seeing maybe what I didn’t even see in myself,” Kerr said. “But it’s a joy and a treat to play.”
