Drew Cain has been on a mission lately on General Hospital: taking down enemies who he believes have wronged him. He’s been so out of control, between blackmailing people and throwing the authorities at them, that someone finally put two bullets in his back. Unfortunately, he survived, and his first thoughts upon waking up were of revenge. In the real world, his portrayer, Cameron Mathison, has been helping his followers become healthier. As such, he recently shared his perspective on staying focused and pursuing your goals no matter what, inspiring his fans.

Discipline, compassion, and Velvet Steel

General Hospital’s Cameron Mathison shared a video alongside a motivational caption that stated: “Discipline without compassion breaks you. Compassion without discipline stalls you. Together? That’s where transformation lives. The wins don’t come from perfection. They come from getting back up, again and again. That’s why I believe in ‘velvet steel’ — discipline to keep you steady, gentleness to keep you going.”

He attached a video to it in which he explained that he had a friend who began a 30-day health challenge, but fell off the wagon early on. But he noted, “Their attitude was amazing. They were like, ‘No big deal. I'm just getting right back on. I'm going to start again the next day or whatever it is.’ ” The General Hospital star then stated, “Stay positive, stay energized, keep your goal in mind, and just keep going. I have this very wise friend who calls it ‘velvet steel,’ where you've got that steel part keeping you on task, you know what I mean? That's the hard part where you gotta be tough on yourself, but then it's surrounded in velvet, you know.”

He also stated that folks should figure out when to be tough on themselves and when not to, finishing with the encouraging words, “Set your goals, stick to ‘em. You mess up, you take a step back, no big deal. Just keep going.”

Got myself addicted to it, trying to stop. Think I need it for caffeine. I’m a waitress and work late. Any ideas, Cameron? I did stop for three years, [it] was a while back, let me know what you come up with.” @victoria_louras added, “You look incredibly healthy, and I love your positiveness.”

Others thanked him for the reminder. @katiemomchamp shared, “I call it ‘main street’ all the good s**t is on Main Street…BUT! We do detour every now and then…just have to get back to Main Street, ha.” @vchamlee wrote, “I recently heard someone suggest using the word devotion instead of discipline — because devotion is an act of love, while discipline feels like an act of force.”

Some used his words to power through challenges of their own. @clare.yeoman commented, “You have to set goals in what you do, you have a great positive mental attitude xx.” @tinas0501 shared, “My dad died a week ago, so I got off track. But hey, I got 1st place in my age group and set a new PR!”
