General Hospital star Steve Burton kicks off the New Year with some very inspiring words

General Hospital character Jason Morgan is a man of few words. Off-camera, his portrayer, Steve Burton, has a lot to say. He's speaking out to his fans and followers with inspiring words as a New Year begins.

Burton heard a quote, and he thought it was great, so he decided to share it in an Instagram post in honor of 2025 coming to a close and the New Year beginning: "You will remain the same until the pain of remaining the same is greater than the pain of change.”

The actor continued, "This quote is so simple, but it’s true. Why does it take so much for us to make a change? There’s a cost to staying the same, and there’s a cost to making a change.

"There’s a pain to stay the same. There’s a pain to making a change," Burton points out. "Choose the better pain. It's a New Year. It's your year. Time to grow! Happy 2026!!"

In addition to working as an actor, Burton also acts as a professional coach. In another Instagram post, he had this to say: "Hey, hey, hope all is well. Just got a good workout in, feeling good…[I] hope you are too. Just wanted to share something with you, just a thought I had: Stop getting upset with people who don’t show up for you.

"Isn’t it crazy the expectations we put on other people who can’t even show up for themselves? And we expect them to show up for us," the Daytime Emmy-winner pointed out. "That’s why it’s so important for you to keep your word to yourself to be able to show up for you when nobody else does...and just stick with your people.

"Who are my people?" Burton rhetorically asks. "Uh, the people who lift you up, the people who want you to do better in life."

Conversely, the actor adds, "Who aren’t my people? The people who drag you down, the people who tear you apart, [and] the people who are negative. Time to cut them loose. Bye. Time to go. You got one life, don’t waste it."

The actor joined General Hospital in 1991 as Jason Quartermaine, the son of the late Dr. Alan (Stuart Damon) and Dr. Monica Quartermaine (Leslie Charleson). A car accident and subsequent brain injury altered Jason's personality, leading him to a life in the mob working with "coffee importer" Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), and taking the name "Jason Morgan."
