Unfortunately, General Hospital will be pre-empted again on Thursday, October 2, 2025, as the final game of the wild-card Major League Baseball playoff airs on ABC.
A General Hospital silver lining
While that's bad news for the episodes that were supposed to air this week, ABC also has good news for fans who are weary of sports pre-emptions when most daytime audiences tune in for soaps.
When ABC executive Nathan Varni announced a third day of pre-emptions on X (formerly Twitter), he offered a bit of good news in the comments section when a fan said they thought GH would be back on Thursday.
"Yes, we were hoping, but the game will extend to Thursday," Varni said. "Good news, this is the last year of the contract, we won’t be interrupted by games next fall."
Although baseball pre-emptions have become commonplace for GH fans each fall, this year's was unexpected as new episodes of the soap were scheduled all week. It was assumed that the games would just air on ESPN, which is also owned by ABC. On Monday, news broke at the last minute that there would be no new GH on Tuesday and Wednesday, and possibly Thursday.
This week becomes next week in Port Charles

With a third day of pre-emptions, Monica's (the late Leslie Charleson) will-reading has now been pushed to Monday's episode, meaning fans will have to wait out the weekend to find out who inherits Monica's house. In the meantime, GH released a video with stars weighing in on who should now own the sprawling Quartermaine estate.
In addition, we will also have to wait to find out who is pregnant, as the GH promo for this week showed a positive pregnancy test. Our bets are on Portia (Brook Kerr) being the center of a 'Who's the Daddy?' story, which could get interesting if Isaiah (Sawandi Wilson) refuses to bow out of her life.
Gio (Giovanni Mazza) was also set to make a big decision this week, but it looks like that decision will be made next week instead. Perhaps he will decide to move back into the Quartermaine mansion and make Tracy (Jane Elliot) a very happy woman indeed, not to mention Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton). We'll have to wait till next week to find out.
