Watching General Hospital use two of its longest-running heroines as props for a PSA on eye mites really got under our skin this week. The abject disrespect for both the characters and actresses was palpable, but it also made us see how many strong women were treated to a week's worth of disrespect over the last few days. We didn't just see it at the nurses' station; we also saw it all across town.
About that PSA...

Let's start with the most ridiculous scenes of the week — listening to Elizabeth and Felicia discuss the foibles of eye mites. Because that is just what you want from your Aztec princess patient advocate and legacy character head nurse who used to battle the bad guys with ease for decades. Felicia even took out Peter August with a tire iron not too long ago, but now she is making eye doctor appointments for nurses who can do such things themselves.
Liz and Felicia should be leading stories and not subjected to silly little PSAs that do not advance the story or add anything to an episode except for eye rolls from the audience. Last week, Liz's only purpose was to stand there and bite her tongue while she watched Willow marry Drew. This week, her only purpose was to utter lines from a commercial while rubbing her eyes.
Elizabeth has legions of fans who just want to see her in a front-burner story, and many of those fans also want to see her with Jason after a quarter of a century of near misses, but Elizabeth fans barely get nice things. We just want not-so-bad things, and the three-scene eye-mite plot was indeed a bad thing.
Make Britt a Doctor Again

Last year, we had a campaign to Make Alexis a Lawyer Again, so now we really would like it if General Hospital were to show Britt some respect and make her a doctor again. If her brother can return from the dead after seven years and become a cop again in the blink of an eye, why can't Britt become a doctor again after returning from the dead after two years? The people who used to be Britt's friends act like she is the only character to fake her own death before. Jason did it in 2021, and everyone accepted him back as normal, so why can't people do it for Britt?
It's nice that Portia and Lucas are willing to go to bat for Britt, but why did it take this long? She was disrespected when she saved Ned's life a few weeks ago, and disrespected some more this week when Isaiah didn't want her examining Portia. As an aside, how did Isaiah not figure out that Portia was pregnant when all she wanted to do was see an obstetrician when she had stomach cramps? The fact that she is with child should have been such a hard reach for a doctor. Perhaps he shouldn't be chastising poor Britt. Just a thought...
Lawyer Alexis is losing her mind

Now that Alexis is indeed a lawyer again, she is stuck defending that dolt Willow, just so she can have access to her own grandchild. Talk about forcing a character to compromise her dignity. She also has to compromise it every time Drew is around, and he orders her to do things his way or the highway. It's disrespectful to watch and frankly gross, but everything about Drew is gross, so that's par for the course. (Where's Ava with a paperweight when you need her?)
This week, Alexis once again had to take Drew's disrespect and abuse, but this time, she put her foot down and made Drew do things her way. She told him how this was going to work. Suzanne would play jury, Drew would recite his testimony, and it would be done in her living room, whether he liked it or not.
It was a pleasure to see until we had to later watch Alexis quake in her proverbial boots that Drew would withhold access to Scout if Willow was exonerated by anything except her legal fancy footwork. Sigh.
Think of Laura...

Hey, remember the Laura of Luke and Laura who started down the Cassadines, went toe-to-toe with big, bad Helena, and thwarted Frank Smith multiple times? Well, now she is the grandma town mayor, crying and shaking because Jenz Sidwell is making threats. And Professor Dalton in her trunk? That find should have been child's play for Laura, who was saving the world from Victor Cassadine in Greenland just two years ago.
OK, GH, treat your mayor and most beloved character with some respect. If it weren't for Laura (and Luke), General Hospital wouldn't even be on the air. It would have been cancelled more than 45 years ago, but thanks to Genie Francis and this character, generations of soap fans have gotten to enjoy everything Port Charles for nearly half a century. We don't want to see Laura portrayed as hysterical and weak. We want to see this badass mayor show us what she's made of.
Can Valentin say thank you?

We love our boyfriend Valentin. We really, really do, and we are so glad he is back and involved in a big story, but can he show his host some respect? He waltzed into Carly's house like he owned the place, insisted he would be staying there, asked Carly to get a message to Charlotte, and didn't even show any gratitude. How's that for some disrespect?
If it weren't for Carly, Valentin wouldn't have even been in that plane he jumped out of. He'd still be locked in Steinmauer, an ocean away from his daughter. He should be bringing her flowers and not wandering around her home looking for the perfect bedroom for his little stay. After all, the shed was so cold. And he's staying until Anna is back. Too bad Anna is locked in a room at Wyndemere with a nice couch and a Yoga mat.
So, we hated the disrespectful way that Valentin treated Carly, but we can never stay mad at our international criminal boyfriend for long because he sings Billy Joel and speaks French. What's not to love?
Respect your wife, Chase

And finally, we have a big ol' bone to pick with Detective Harrison Chase and his sheer devotion to that nutjob named Willow. Chase, Willow was once your wife for a month or so and cheated on you. Brook Lynn has been your devoted wife for nearly two years and hasn't looked at another man.
Focus on Brook Lynn and forget that girl who can't stay faithful to a man to save her life. Or can she? Because she sure is faithful to Drew to save her now, for better...or for worse...
