Lizzo’s lawyers have responded to the lawsuit against the “Good as hell” hitmaker with a new filing that seeks to discredit the plaintiff’s claims of disability discrimination in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
In the new filing, the plaintiff, Asha Daniels, is called a “brazen liar” and a “disgruntled former employee with an inflated ego.” The rapper’s lawyers claim that she was upset because she wasn't granted access to Lizzo to pitch new design ideas. So she allegedly sued with “absurd allegations” because of the “personal vendettas” she harbors against Lizzo, Carlina Gugliotta, and Amanda Nomura.
“Once [Daniels] joined the tour, it was immediately evident that she felt the role was beneath her. To add insult to injury, Daniels got no closer to Lizzo than occasionally smiling at her in passing,” the filing read.

In September 2023, Asha Daniels filed a lawsuit against the Truth Hurts rapper, alleging that she faced racist and fat-phobic comments, s*xual harassment, and disability discrimination. According to Daniels, Amanda Nomura bullied her and intentionally ran over her foot with a rack. She brought out text messages in which she complained to Carlina Gugliotta as evidence.
“I’m going to talk to her today for you. We don’t want anyone to feel like they are being bullied or not having a nice time,” Carlina responded to one of the text messages where Daniels complained about Amanda’s bullying.
The new filing by Lizzo’s lawyers called the lawsuit “meritless.” It instead blamed Asha for wearing slide-on gym shoes or Crocs, causing her injury.
“She could not reasonably believe that a rolled ankle, broken acrylic nails or feeling ‘woozy’ are disabilities under the ADA,” the filing read.
The lawyers say even if Asha didn't like the “way Nomura allegedly behaved,” none of her allegations against the latter are “actionable discrimination or retaliation under federal law.”
The rapper’s lawyers are requesting that the judge pass a ruling that Big Grrrl, Lizzo’s touring company, has no liability based on the stated claims and evidence so far. It is reported that Asha hasn't brought in a “single” witness to back up her claims.
However, Ronald Zambrano, the plaintiff’s lead lawyer, doesn't agree with the defence's new filing. In response, Ronald says he isn't worried.
“We fully expected the defense to file a motion to dismiss. We also fully expect the judge to deny the motion, and we look forward to taking this case to trial and winning,” he said in a statement.
He also called the filing of the defence team “meritless,” claiming they are going for victim blaming, and it won't work.
“The motion is meritless, and the defense knows it, but their modus operandi is to treat all lawsuits as having no grounds to proceed by repeatedly blaming the victim. It won’t work.”
