Diana Ross, popularly known as the “Queen of Motown Records,” has offered her fans a rare glimpse into her life. The 81-year-old American singer, who has been away from the spotlight for some time, recently spoke with People magazine for an exclusive feature in the magazine’s weekly issue.
In the feature published on Thursday, June 5, 2025, the “Touch Me in the Morning” hitmaker spoke about her large family, health in the 80s, and plans for the summer. Diana Ross made an iconic appearance at the 2025 Met Gala, where she wore a family-themed attire. In the interview with People, Ross spoke about the inspiration and creativity behind her viral outfit.

When asked about her recent activities in an interview, the mother of five and the grandmother of eight shared that she has taken up swimming to stay grounded and flexible. She also emphasized that she does not joke about her sleep or food and mentioned her love for Häagen-Dazs ice cream.
Additionally, she discussed her outfit for the 2025 Met Gala, revealing that her son, Evan, is a good friend of the designer Ugo Mozie, who created her Met Gala look. She stated:
“He wanted me to be able to tell my own story with my adult children and grandkids’ names embroidered on the cloak. It was a monumental love fest. And it seemed to have been an ideal look for the Met Gala,” she told People.
Diana added that the outfit was originally made for her birthday (March 16), but she realized that it was perfect for the 2025 Met Gala theme, which was "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style."
“You may not know that about me, but that was my major in school. I designed all the costumes in Mahogany, and I designed all my costumes on stage. I always have wonderful support, seamstresses, and wardrobe people,” she added, talking about her passion for design and fashion.
Diana Ross shared how she and her family go on vacation together, noting that Connecticut is their usual destination. She also mentioned having a wonderful time in the Caribbean recently, surrounded by family members.
In the interview, Diana Ross also detailed her summer plans. The “Ain't No Mountain High Enough” crooner discussed her christening and performance as the godmother of Royal Caribbean’s newest ship, the Star of the Seas.
“I’ve always felt a deep connection to the ocean and the magic it represents—peace, adventure, and awe. When Royal Caribbean reached out to invite me to be the godmother of Star of the Seas, I knew it was something truly special.”
Diana Ross will join the August Voyage, which will start in Port Canaveral, Orlando, FL. The cruise will accommodate 5,610 guests in double occupancy and have 2,805 staterooms. According to Diana, all members of her family have been invited.
