Former soccer player Brittany Mahomes took to her Instagram stories on Monday, October 6, 2025, to share a gift package she received from Taylor Swift. The gift included a handwritten note, two T-shirts, and a vinyl record.

Sharing a picture of the gifts with The Life of a Showgirl playing in the background, Brittany captioned the post:

“Taylor Swift has done it again! Truly one of the best to ever do it and keep doing it!”

After Taylor dropped her album, Swifties began to speculate whether the tenth track, CANCELLED!, was about the former footballer.

The handwritten note read:

“Well, hi, if you’re reading this, you’re someone special who has shown love, someone I admire, and ultimately someone I’d want to celebrate with as we welcome ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ into the world. I hope you like these gifts and record! With love, a showgirl named Taylor.”

More details on Taylor Swift’s song CANCELLED

CANCELLED is the tenth track in Taylor Swift’s successful twelfth studio album, The Life of a Showgirl. Like most of the songs on the album, it was written and produced by Taylor Swift alongside Max Martin and Shellback.

The song's lyrics tackle one of the most controversial topics in modern history: cancel culture. CANCELLED encourages celebrities to fight against the culture and expresses Taylor’s support for those whom the system has targeted. The chorus reads:

“Good thing I like my friends cancelled (Cancelled)/ I like 'em cloaked in Gucci and in scandal (Yeah)/ Like my whiskey sour, and poison thorny flowers/ (Honey) Welcome to my underworld, it'll break your heart/ At least you know exactly who your friends are/ They're the ones with matching scars.”

Taylor discussed the song in a track-by-track commentary on Amazon. She relates the song to her experience of being cancelled.

“The song ‘CANCELLED!’ is sort of about, you know, having had my own experiences with mass judgment and being at the centre of many, you know, dramatic, kind of scandalous moments in my career where people were all weighing in at once, or at least it felt like that. Having had those experiences, it makes me move through the world a little bit differently.”

She explained that she has learned to empathise with people in similar situations and wouldn't abandon her friends simply because they are being cancelled.

“And when other people go through it, you kind of find yourself thinking about how they’re probably going to get smarter because of this. If they can get through it, if they can be tough enough, they can actually learn some things through this process. And how I don’t naturally just cast people aside just because other people decide they don’t like them. I make my own decisions about people based on how they treat me within my life and their actions.”
