Mick Ralphs' full name, Michael Geoffrey Ralphs, has passed away at the age of 81. The English vocalist, guitarist, songwriter, and founding member of rock bands Bad Company and Mott the Hoople passed away in June due to cancer complications. His death was officially announced on Monday, June 23, 2025, through a statement released on the official website of Bad Company.

Mick last performed with Bad in 2016, shortly before suffering a stroke.

“Ralphs gave his final performance with Bad Company on October 29, 2016, at London’s O2 Arena. Just days later, he suffered a debilitating stroke and remained bedridden until his passing.”

The press release also discussed Mick Ralphs' role in the band's creations and success, highlighting his achievements with the group.

“He is survived by the love of his life, Susie Chavasse, his two children, three step-children and his beloved bandmates Paul Rodgers and Simon Kirke. He also leaves behind millions of devoted fans and friends across the world,” the statement read.

Mick Ralphs was the writer of several notable songs, including “Rock and Roll Queen,” Ready for Love,” “Can't Get Enough,” “Good Lovin’ Gone Bad,” and “Moving On.”

“Mick Ralphs leaves behind a powerful musical legacy that will continue to inspire generations,” the statement concluded.

Mick Ralphs was born in March 1994 and grew up in Herefordshire, England, where he began his music career when he was a teen. He performed with the Buddies, a blue rock band, and went on to release his first single with the group in 1964.

In 1966, Mick Ralphs joined Mott the Hoople that time known as the Mod Doc Thomas Group. In 1973, after the band had their big breakthrough with the album All the Young Dudes, Mick left.

Following his exit from the Mod Doc Thomas Group, Mick Ralohs founded Bad Company with Paul Rodgers after “an inspired jam session“ and a “mutual sharing of songs.”

Co-founder and lead vocalist of Bad Company, Paul Rodgers, shared a moving tribute alongside the news of Rick's passing.

“Our Mick has passed, my heart just hit the ground. He has left us with exceptional songs and memories. He was my friend, my songwriting partner, an amazing and versatile guitarist who had the greatest sense of humour.”

He also shared the touching last conversation he and the guitarist had days before his passing.

“Our last conversation a few days ago we shared a laugh but it won’t be our last. There are many memories of Mick that will create laughter. Condolences to everyone who loved him especially his one true love, Susie. I will see you in heaven.”

Sirmon Kirk, the drummer for Bad Company, also shared his tribute.

“He was a dear friend, a wonderful songwriter, and an exceptional guitarist. We will miss him deeply.”

Mick Ralphs’ death occurred two months after the group was announced as an inductee for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s Class of 2025, scheduled for November 8, 2025.
