Miley Cyrus, 32, achieved a significant milestone in her music career in 2024 as she won her first Grammy Award at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards.

On June 4, the Party in the U.S.A. singer reflected on her win, sharing that she already knew when she was about to receive her first-ever Grammy recognition.

While chatting with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Miley Cyrus shared when and how she realized her victory. Seeing Mariah Carey on the stage was her moment of realization.

"Once I saw Mariah Carey, I knew I was gonna win. I had this whole idea in my mind of the butterfly and that metamorphosis. And she is the butterfly. Her album Butterfly has been such a North Star for me. So when I saw her, I kind of knew I was going to win. Because that was just... It was an MC. MC to MC; I knew I had to get it," she said.

Expressing the joy of meeting Carey, she further explained,

"I was so excited to meet Mariah Carey. Even if I didn't get the trophy, which was very cool... I mean, I love the trophy. But it was really about meeting her. I was so excited."

Miley Cyrus recalled her Grammy-winning experience and what happened that night

During her recent appearance on the chat show, Miley Cyrus recalled how she was on the verge of missing accepting her Grammy Award from Carey on the stage, People Magazine reported.

Looking back on that incident of almost missing the moment, she explained,

"I didn't even know if I was going to make it to the Grammys. I said it very quickly as I was mumbling my acceptance speech because I actually got stuck in the rain. I got stuck in traffic. I almost didn't even make it to receive."

Interestingly, winning a Grammy was never the Midnight Sky singer's dream or "compass".

Cyrus explained to Fallon and the audience,

"The reason I love that I never got a Grammy before was because it was never my compass. It was not my North Star. That wasn't what I was after because I didn't really expect it. That's why the show had so much life, and I was genuinely surprised when I got my award."

Miley Cyrus won two prestigious awards for her iconic song Flowers at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards. She secured the accolades in the Best Pop Solo Performance and the Record of the Year categories.

The 2023 single was a part of her album Endless Summer Vacation, released in the same year.

Last month, Miley Cyrus appeared on The Zane Lowe Show on Apple Music and looked back on receiving her Grammy Awards.

Calling the victory a "healing" experience, she shared,

"I think somewhere inside of me, I needed maybe to hold a trophy and just feel for a moment that I have something that I can hold in my hands that feels like a true achievement."

Miley stole the show at the 2024 Grammys with her powerful live performance of Flowers. She impressed the audience with her vocal prowess while singing her two-time Grammy-winning track.

The song achieved incredible commercial success. It topped the Billboard Hot 100 and held the number one position for eight consecutive weeks, according to the Grammy Awards' official website.
