SEVENTEEN members Woozi and Hoshi are officially set to begin their mandatory military service this September. Their agency, Pledis Entertainment, confirmed on July 8, 2025, that Woozi will enlist on September 15, followed by Hoshi on September 16, 2025.

Both of the SEVENTEEN members will serve as active-duty soldiers in the South Korean Army. This announcement comes following a relatively active year for the group. It includes their 10th-anniversary celebrations, album releases, and the launch of a subunit that featured the two idols.

Enlistment is mandatory for most able-bodied South Korean men before the age of 30. SEVENTEEN fans around the world are taking to social media with mixed emotions as the duo temporarily set to step away from their music career.

Kpop Charts took to their official X (formerly Twitter) page to share:

"SEVENTEEN's Woozi and Hoshi will begin their mandatory military service on September 15 & 16 respectively."

Fans were quick to gather in the comment section of the post as they shared their thoughts regarding the news. Below are what some of them had to say:

"When they reunite, the comeback will be legendary. Carats ride with you always— we will make the return EPIC!", declared a fan.
"Hope Hoshi will finally be happy, bro did not stop teasing us since last year", stated another.
"Is this what they call damage control after pulling a thirst trap? Literally damage, for real.", opined a third.

Others also chimed in:

"i knew this was coming but its does not hurt any less. i miss my ot13 svt", expressed an X user.
"gonna miss the boys, stay safe and we will be waiting", penned another.
"Stay safe my howooo! i love you", commented a third.

Woozi is SEVENTEEN's vocal unit leader. He is known as the primary producer and songwriter behind many of the group's hits. On the other hand, Hoshi serves as the leader of the performance unit. He oversees much of the choreography and stage direction.

Together, Woozi and Hoshi formed the subunit HxW earlier this year and debuted their collaborative single album Beam in March 2025. It featured the lead track "96ers." This project was well-received by fans and enthusiasts worldwide.

Pledis Entertainment confirmed that while the two will be unable to participate in group activities during their service, pre-recorded content featuring both idols will continue to roll out.

The agency also requested fans to refrain from visiting the enlistment sites in person due to privacy and safety concerns:

"As numerous enlistees and their families will be present at the enlistment ceremony, we respectfully request that you refrain from visiting the site in person. Please send your heartfelt messages through Weverse instead."

Notably, these SEVENTEEN members are exempted from mandatory military service: Joshua (U.S. citizen), The 8 and Jun (Chinese citizens), and S.Coups (medically exempt).
