Fans of Taylor Swift have raised concerns online. They are accusing the American Music Awards (AMAs) of muting crowd reactions during the announcement of the Artist of the Year nominees. The show aired Monday night from the Fontainebleau Las Vegas resort.

The controversy began after an X (formerly Twitter) user shared a clip from the broadcast showing what appeared to be a subdued or muted audience response when Swift’s name was mentioned.

They wrote in the caption:

“@AMAs muting the cheers when taylor was announced was so nasty and disrespectful. this is how you treat your most awarded AMA artist??”

At the time of writing, the video had garnered over 481,300 views.

A follow-up post featuring a different angle of the event claimed the crowd’s reaction had, in fact, been loud but was not reflected in the aired audio.

The Swiftie added:

"she was cheered for LOUDLY btw."

As of writing, neither Taylor Swift nor the show’s organizers have addressed the incident. However, Newsweek confirmed it reached out to Penske Media Corporation, producers of the AMAs, for comment.

Swifties react to claims of muted cheers at the 2025 AMAs

Following the claims, Taylor Swift’s devoted fanbase — known as Swifties — shared their disappointment online, calling out what they perceived as disrespect toward the pop icon.

User @for_evermore7 wrote:

“AMAs were so against Taylor tonight I don’t get why???”

Netizen @Sofia_Paola11 chimed in:

“When they did mashups. They didn’t even include Taylor. They added ‘Sports Car’ even if Tate McRae wasn’t even nominated (which I don’t get either).”

Fan account @Libbysrhaul expressed frustration:

“I'm so disappointed with the AMAs, she didn't deserve to get disrespected like that”

Online user @dunsafterglow shared their firsthand experience from the crowd:

“i was in pit and we cheered the LOUDEST, i’m so sad they did this. the taylor disrespect at these recent award shows disappoints me so much”

Another one, @KrissyMcfl89572, echoed the sentiment:

“Petty, really. This disrespect is why she will not attend awards anymore. Or announce there. She’ll do it another way WHEN she chooses to release any of her albums. Here for that when it happens.”

Taylor Swift misses 2025 AMAs despite six nominations

Taylor Swift, the most awarded artist in AMA history, was noticeably absent from this year’s ceremony.

For the 2025 AMAs, she was nominated in six categories, including Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Favorite Female Pop Artist, Collaboration of the Year (with Post Malone), Favorite Touring Artist, and Favorite Pop Album.

Unfortunately, she didn’t win any of the categories.

Other major winners included Billie Eilish, who won in all seven of her nominated categories.

Kendrick Lamar led the pack with 10 nominations but only took home one award — for Favorite Hip-Hop Song.

The event was hosted by Jennifer Lopez, returning to the role for the first time in over a decade.
