On July 18, in San Francisco, Katy Perry was performing her hit “Roar” as part of her Lifetimes Tour at the Chase Center. She was floating on a giant butterfly-shaped flying prop. Suddenly, the prop tilted and dropped, leaving her dangling mid-air. In the video, she scrambles to steady herself, looks at the wires above, gives a reassuring wave to fans showing she’s okay, and bravely continues her performance.

It was frightening to watch live. Fans gasped, but Katy didn’t stop singing. She handled it like a pro, calming both herself and the crowd. After the show, she posted a shaky selfie on Insta Stories with the caption “Good Night San Fran.”

This wasn’t the first time something like this happened. In June, another stage prop swung unexpectedly at her Australia show, leaving her struggling mid‑air. Yet she kept pushing forward.

Fan reactions to Katy Perry's prop malfunction

Fans took to X right away. Many voiced concerns and shared how scary it looked. But fans also praised Katy Perry's calmness.

A user @agorahills commented,

"I’m sorry that’s actually so scary, when will artists learn to not use these types of props," another user @mayhembygaga commented.
"she said the singing shouldn’t stop which the audience paid for!!! handled it so well," @TheImmortal007 commented.
"Oh my god, this stage accident is so scary. Do singers specifically mention "accidental clauses" when signing contracts?" another user @shanemoy3 commented.
"ALSO THE PROFESSIONALISM AND HOW SHE KEPT SINGING??. Some female pop stars just give their everything to create an amazing concertfor their fans even if it means risking their own lives!!! Yet ppl will will pick some cringe moments from 2 hours show to tear them down?!" @sangamsharma03 commented.

Fans raise questions about stage props and safety

Fans are pointing out that incidents like these show how risky these big stage props can be. They look magical, but when something fails, it can turn dangerous fast. Today’s concerts often blend fantasy and tech, and while it is exciting, it also needs to be safe.

"OMG THAT’S ALMOST A LAWSUIT !!!!!!" @arxhiiie commented.
"I always wonder why they decide to do something like that… someone will be fired over that," another user, @viskkkor, commented.
"She was not scared but in all reality: why do they keep doing these? We have seen so many issues recently," @ClaudiaStefano9 commented.

Katy’s team quickly lowered the butterfly, and she kept going. But fans say singers shouldn’t have to fly across arenas just to wow people. Many think amazing shows can still happen without risking lives.

Despite this scare, Katy Perry is pushing on. Her tour highlights her album 143 and continues through July with a stop in Seattle next, followed by shows across Canada, Europe, and South America until December.

This was a tense moment. But thanks to Katy Perry's poise and quick reactions, what could’ve been a disaster turned into a powerful bit of showmanship, as per her fans.
