Why did Kevin Gates and Dreka Gates break up? Rapper's ex-wife seemingly throws shade with video of sipping tea amid Brittany Renner's divorce

Dreka Gates has seemingly reacted to the news of Kevin Gates and Brittany Renner’s split.

The Stranger Than Fiction rapper’s estranged wife reposted one of her recent reels via Instagram Stories. In a seven-second clip, Dreka Gates is seen sipping tea while enjoying the view from a balcony. While the video was initially posted a few days back, the entrepreneur captioned her repost as follows to seemingly throw shade at the news of Kevin and Brittany’s divorce:

While the couple hasn’t said anything about their divorce, they haven’t been together for quite some time. Kevin Gates initially hinted at his separation from Dreka Gates in a 2022 promotional single, Super General (Freestyle), for his album Khaza. The rapper said in his song,

“Took the blame in interviews and made it look like I was trippin'/ Made the 'Dreka' song, lied to the world while trying to protect her image”

Before he dropped the single, the Islah rapper had sparked infidelity rumors and was getting linked to a Love & Hip Hop Miami star, Jojo Zarur, per HotNewHipHop. According to Distractify, the speculation surrounding Kevin Gates’ relationships with other women was reportedly the reason behind his breakup with his first wife, Dreka. Per the outlet, the pair parted ways in November last year.

Kevin Gates allegedly told his ex-girlfriend about being legally separated from Dreka Gates

As of June 2025, there hasn’t been any confirmation of a divorce filing from the By Any Means rapper or his estranged spouse. However, Kevin Gates’ ex-girlfriend Persia P shared some details about her relationship with the rapper via her Instagram Stories in April.

She claimed that Gates, who was apparently also involved with Brittany Renner since 2022, told her about being legally separated from his wife, Dreka. Here’s what Persia P asserted (via The Shade Room),

“I want to make one thing very clear, I would never f**k with a married man. This man told me he’s legally separated, so that’s that. I simply came onto this platform to express how I feel ’cause I have every right to feel the way that I do and to women that are going through the same thing.”

Persia added,

“It’s okay to stand up for yourself. Dealing with men that manipulate, gaslight, lie, all of that. I’m just sick of it all. I’m sick of this man leading me on this whole time.”

The former and his second wife divorced. Brittany Renner confirmed the news on June 7 while talking to REAL 92.3 LA (aka KRRL).

According to HotNewHipHop, The Ceremony rapper’s first wife was being accused of cheating on social media. Many alleged that she was in a relationship with her personal trainer when she was still together with Kevin. Dreka Gates took to her Instagram Stories to shut down the naysayers once and for all.

Per The Shade Room, the businesswoman wrote,

“I HAVE to address this because it's really gone a little too far and I don't care for social media to continue to spread this misinformation. I have NEVER had any type of s*xual or romantic encounters with my personal trainer or any 'hired help' and will NEVER.”

She concluded with a light-hearted response to the allegations,

“And just to make it CLEAR, sorry ladies but I am strictly about the [eggplant emoji] and I do not do plastic [ROFL emoji] I need the real thang! Please and thank you.”

Coincidentally, within a week, Kevin Gates and Brittany Renner parted ways, apparently for a different reason. The social media influencer confirmed in a recent interview that her marriage lasted 52 days, as she and her husband divorced on May 28.
