In the music video, Oliver Anthony sings in a quaint red cabin in Mercer County West Virginia on January 6, 2025 surrounded by musicians playing the violin and drums and his two dogs.

The song depicts a man shattered by a painful divorce, pleading for relief from his heartbreak. In the first verse, Anthony sings about how the “scornful woman” changed his world from bright to dull after revealing a side that “he wants to run from.” He continues that even several years later, he still can't escape the scornful woman.

In the second verse, Anthony sings about the good times they had in the relationship when he believed that his love interest was always going to be with him. But now she is gone, and nothing feels right again.

“I used to sleep so good/ Didn't have a nightmare/ I was busy dreaming/ Believing ya's always gonna be right there/ And now the middle of the day/ Is like the middle of the night/ And the court says 50/50/ But the math don't seem right.”

After another soulful rendition of the chorus, Oliver sings in the bridge how he would gladly give up his money and fame if he could just stop the awful experience of heartbreak.

“She can have all the money/ And they can keep all the fame/ I'd go back to being broke as a joke/ If I could just get a break from the pain.”

The song concludes with a powerful crescendo of musical instruments.
