On June 5, 2025, boyband icon AJ McLean was featured on the Just Trish Podcast, where he shared a piece of advice he had given his daughters to help them in their relationships. McLean has two daughters, Elliott, 12, and Lyric, 8.
In the podcast, McLean also narrated his experience as a member of the iconic band Backstreet Boys and discussed the group's upcoming Las Vegas show, "Into The Millennium," scheduled to run from Friday, July 11, 2025, to Saturday, July 27, 2025.
Talking to Trisha Paytas, the Backstreet Boys member recalled the shocking moment he discovered his seven-year-old daughter, Lyric, was in a relationship with a guy who was also dating one of her girlfriends. The father of two expressed his disapproval regarding the relationship:
"My youngest apparently has a boyfriend. I'm like, 'No. You don't.' She doesn't. And then one of her other girlfriends is dating the same boy, i'm like, 'What is wrong with you guys?' Like, no." McLean said.
AJ McLean also shared the dating tips he had given to his daughter Elliott. The singer added that he suggested to the 12-year-old that she should warn every potential boyfriend about her father’s ability to take revenge on whoever wrongs her, to "put the fear of God in him."
More details on AJ McLean's advice to his daughter Elliot
During the recent interview with Trisha Paytas, the 47-year-old Backstreet Boys member reminisced on a relationship advice he shared with his daughter Elliot. Aj McLean explained that NSYNC's Joey Fatone inspired the advice.
The Florida-born musician stated:
"So I told my oldest, I said, 'When you do go on your first official date, whether it's to the movies or it's the mall, and the boy comes to pick you up as he should, I want you to say these exact words to him before you leave my house. She's like, 'What?' "
He continues:
"I said, 'You need to tell him to his face, whatever you do to me, my dad's gonna do to you. Simple as that. And hopefully, put the fear of God in him. Because I thought in the back of my mind, I could tell that little boy, like, 'Hey. See all these tattoos? I got these in prison."
AJ McLean jokingly concluded by saying, "But all he has to do is Google me and be like, 'You're in a boy band. You never went to prison.' Like, damn it. You're right. I didn't."
Commemorating the twenty-fifth anniversary of the chart-topping album Millennium, Backstreet Boys will be releasing a remastered edition of the album. The 2.0 version would retain the original songs from Millennium and feature recordings from the group's 1999 Millennium World Tour, coupled with some unreleased demos.
The album is set to release on July 11, 2025.
