Machine Head have announced a change to their 2025 summer European and UK tour lineup. They have officially confirmed that guitarist Reece Scruggs will be sitting out the run to stay by his father's side during a critical health battle.
Reece Scruggs officially joined Machine Head in 2024. However, he had performed with them since 2022. He shared that his father was recently diagnosed with lung cancer and that he will step away from touring duties to support his family.
The official announcement was accompanied by statements from Reece Scruggs and Machine Head frontman Robb Flynn. The band emphasized the importance of family and respect for privacy during this time.
In Scruggs' absence, two musicians have been brought in to cover guitar duties across the tour dates: former Machine Head member Wacław "Vogg" Kieltyka (currently of Decapitated) and producer Zack Ohren (of Darkness Everywhere). Vogg will handle most shows, and Ohren will fill in on select dates where Decapitated are already booked.
Machine Head shared a statement via their official Instagram handle on this matter. The post read:
"Head Cases, leave Reece some love in the comments.❤️🩹 It is with heavy hearts that Machine Head must announce that our bandmate and brother Reece Scruggs will not be with us on our upcoming European / UK festival and headline run. His family at home needs him and we want him to be there with them."
The post continued with Reece Scruggs' statement:
"With the support and understanding of Robb, the band, and management I have chosen to get off the road and step away for a while to be with my family. To be transparent, my father was recently diagnosed with lung cancer. I have sacrificed a lot in pursuit of my music career over the years. When I received this news I knew I had to make a sacrifice in favor of my family. I can't possibly describe the appreciation I have for Robb and the MH camp for not batting an eye when I expressed my want to be at home during this difficult time."
The post concluded with a statement from Machine Head, which is as follows:
"Reece has our absolute support and we know full well that the Head Cases around the world share our sentiments. We ask that both fans, peers, and media please respect his privacy during this challenging time. Joining us to fill in this massive void for the lion's share of the upcoming shows will be good friend (and former bandmate), "Vogg" Waclaw Kieltyka, alongside long-time producer, collaborator, and Darkness Everywhere member Zack Ohren on select dates where/when Vogg's band Decapitated is already scheduled to perform."
The move ensures the Machine Head tour will go ahead as planned. Notably, a GoFundMe campaign has also been launched to support medical and living expenses for Reece's father.
