Luke Bryan has revealed his thoughts on the judges' lineup for the upcoming season of American Idol. The new season of the singing competition is set to commence in 2026, and fans of the show have been wondering which judges they will see in the season.

In an exclusive interview with Taste of Country, published on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, the 49-year-old country singer predicted that Carrie Underwood, past winner and judge, might again grace the judges' seat. According to Luke Bryan, his “prediction would be highly favorable” since Carrie really enjoyed her previous role as a judge.

“I know she had a great time in the role,” he said, referring to Underwood’s time as a judge in the series.

Carrie has also spoken about her experience as a judge on American Idol. During the finals of season 23, the singer talked to E about her experience.

“I had a lot of fun, for sure,” she admitted. “I didn’t know how I’d feel about it, [but] Luke and Lionel, and the crew … the people that work on the show are just so easy to be around.”

Carrie also expressed her willingness to judge in another season.

“That would be cool, I think,” she answered when asked if she wanted to judge in another season.

During his exclusive interview with Taste of Country, Luke Bryan didn't confirm whether he will be in the next season. When asked whether he would be on it, the Country music star answered:

“We’ll see what happens…’ Idol’ is kind of a year-by-year [thing], ‘Do we do it or not?'”

He also emphasized how much he enjoyed the just-concluded season.

“This year was really really incredible with Carrie and Lionel and Ryan. And the main thing is just, have fun with American Idol and have fun with the contestants.”

Luke Bryan first joined the singing competition seven years ago as a judge. He joined the show’s sixteenth season in 2018 and worked alongside Katy Perry and Lionel Richie to judge and mentor the contestants. Luke replaced Keith Urban on the show.

In an interview with Billboard, Luke Bryan described how the show has changed him on a personal level.

“It's taught me to come from a small town in South Georgia and see the melting pot that America is. For me to be able to witness that through the youth and their stories and their differences and watching music bringing us all together, it's been very enlightening for me.”
