A$AP Rocky has been named the 2025 Fashion Icon Award honoree by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). The not-for-profit trade association made the announcement on October 21 on Instagram with a photo of the rapper.
Speaking of the Rocky, chairman of CFDA, Thom Browne, said:
"A$AP Rocky is a fashion icon in the purest form…he is one of a kind. His truly original approach to fashion inspires me, and so many, to think differently."
In addition to his rap career, Rocky is the founder of the fashion brand AWGE, which offers clothing and accessories. According to CFDA,
"In recent years, AWGE has launched partnerships with Marine Serre, Amina Muaddi, JW Anderson, and Selfridges, as well as conceptual collaborations with MTV and Needles. The brand’s Paris Men’s Fashion Week runway debut in 2024 and its sophomore show earlier this year cemented Rocky’s presence as a collaborator and designer."
The CFDA Fashion Awards are scheduled to take place on November 3 at the American Museum of Natural History. The event is organized by Amazon Fashion.
A$AP Rocky talks about fashion
Speaking to Vogue earlier this year, A$AP Rocky shared that he often recalls years based on the outfits he wore:
"When you tell me [what I had on], I remember."
While the rapper is loved online for his outfits, a few of his outfits have also been made fun of in the past. Speaking about this to Vogue, he said:
"I ain’t gonna lie, they roasted me on the internet for this"
The rapper has previously worked with famous fashion designer Virgil Abloh on his music video Fashion Killa, starring his now partner Rihanna. Talking about Virgil, A$AP Rocky revealed that working with him was effortless and that they were like-minded.
A$AP Rocky has been very open about his love for fashion. In another interview with GQ magazine, the rapper revealed that he loves expressing himself through fashion.
Talking about his fashion inspirations when he was a kid, the rapper took the names of hip hop group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Grand Puba, and New York rappers. He added:
"When we talk about individual artists with style, like Andre 3000, most def so many people in hip hop contribute to this."
Other honorees at the CFDA Awards include Ralph Rucci (Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award), Cynthia Rowley (Founder’s Award), Andre Walker (Isabel Toledo Board of Directors’ Tribute), Sara Moonves (Media Award), Pieter Mulier for Alaïa (International Designer of the Year), and Donatella Versace (Positive Change Award).
