On June 4, 2025, Day 17 of Sean Diddy Combs’ trial for sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation for prostitution, the defense resumed its cross-examination of one of the witnesses, Bryana Bongolan.
Bongolan, a friend of Cassie Ventura, the prosecution’s star witness, alleged on June 4, 2025, that she was sleeping in Ventura’s apartment in a high-rise in Los Angeles when Diddy barged in and dangled her over the balcony of the 17th story.
Bongolan added that the music executive threw her into furniture and left her bruised and cut, according to The Washington Post. Combs has denied all the allegations levied against him and pleaded not guilty.
Combs’ defense attorneys leaned into inconsistencies in Bongolan’s testimony, interviews, court statements, and her sexual assault lawsuit filed against Combs in 2024 to paint the latter as an unreliable witness.
Key highlights of Bryana Bongolan’s cross-examination in the Diddy trial explored
Defense Attorney Nicole Westmoreland pressed Bryana Bongolan on why she still returned to Ventura’s apartment to deal drugs with the latter after allegedly being dangled over a 17-story balcony:
Westmoreland stated:
"You are still doing drugs with Cassie or texting Cassie about drugs. According to you, Mr. Combs threatened your life a few weeks before that post, right? … Weren’t you scared to do that?”
The witness reportedly whispered into the microphone: “I guess not.”
Westmoreland brought up established false statements in Bongolan’s 2024 sexual battery lawsuit against Combs. Bongolan admitted that a statement in court filings that Diddy had grabbed her breasts while he dangled her over the railing was false.
Ventura’s friend claimed that this incorrect detail was included by her attorney, Tyrone Blackburn, and she fired him because of it. Westmoreland pointed out that Blackburn continued to represent Bongolan:
"Your attorney Tyrone started that sexual story, but you kept that even though you knew it was a lie.”
The witness replied:
“Sorry, it’s really hard to commit to the whole sentence because there are parts that are true.”
Defense attorney Westmoreland questioned Bongolan on her continued association with Combs even after the alleged assault:
“You are alleging that Mr. Combs, just two weeks prior to this, hung you over a balcony, threw you into furniture, you sustained serious injuries, and now you are asking if he wants a T-shirt?”
The defense showed the court a receipt from a Trump Tower hotel booking made by Combs. It showed that the music executive checked into the hotel two days before and checked out three days after the alleged date of the assault on Bongolan.
Bongolan replied that she couldn’t remember the specific date of the incident and that she had only assumed it based on the date of a photograph of her injuries. In a bid to refocus the jury on the most important details of her testimony, the prosecution called Bongolan to the stand to answer salient questions.
After she had satisfied the prosecution that even though she couldn’t remember the date of the assault, she was certain that Diddy dangled her over a balcony, the jurors were excused for their lunch break.
The court has called the next witness in Diddy's trial, Enrique Santos, to the stand.
