Durk Derrick Banks, an American rapper more popularly known as Lil Durk, has been in prison since October 2024. He was arrested on charges of being involved in the m**der of Quando Rondo’s cousin back in 2022. This m**der was allegedly tied to the ki**ing of Big Von, another rapper who was under Banks' label. According to reports, Big Von was offed by Quando's partner, Lul Timm.
There have been new developments in Lil Durk's m**der-for-hire case in 2025. Recent news claims that Banks is facing difficulties securing a bond because of what they found on his phone. Using a federal search warrant, the government went through Durk's phone and found an unreleased song called "Scoom His A**". The song is considered incriminating because of how similar the lyrics are to the alleged crime. Here is a look at the lyrics:
"riding through Beverly Hills with choppers," has a close resemblance tot he alleged crimed that was commited against Quando Rondo's cousin.
Another song that the government is using against the rapper is Rumours, a track he collaborated with Gucci Mane on in 2022. These are the lyrics highlighted by the law:
"I don't want no ni**as who you catch I want the one I paid for... Trollin' *ss, we sh*t your homie, we ain't know he can take those."
More details about Lil Durk's songs being used in his m**der-for-hire case
The feds have used two of Lil Durk's songs against him in his m**der-for-hire case. One of the songs, Scoom His A** is an unreleased track that was found on the rapper's phone.
To counter this, Lil Durk's lawyer, Drew Findling, brought up another song that the rapper wrote before the alleged crime. He referred to Wonderful Wayne & Jackie Boy and said:
"Unless the government is prosecuting Banks on a theory of extra-sensory prescience, the lyrics could not have soundly informed the grand jury’s finding of probable cause."
Additionally, Lil Durk's team posted a video on his official Instagram account asking fans for help and support. The video includes this message:
"The recent developments in Durk’s legal case have brought a harsh truth to light: the government presented false evidence to a grand jury to indict him... This isn’t justice. That's a violation of the very system that’s supposed to protect all of us"
It continues:
We refuse to stay silent as Black artists continue to be criminalized for their creativity. Rap is art. As a family, we are asking the public, the fans, and the culture to stand with us. Stand for truth, Stand for fairness, Stand for The Voice. FREE DURK."
Before the clip came to an end, they included these hashtags for fans to use: #FreeDurk, #FreeTheVoice, #LetArtistsBeArtists.
Lil Durk's case has brought out questions about whether rap lyrics should be used in the court of law as evidence. The rapper calls for his fans' support to fight the justice system.
