Kody Brown wishes he could have fixed things with his son before he died. Kody Brown feels a heavy weight in his heart because he never got the chance to make things right with his son, Garrison, before Garrison died on March 5, 2024.
Garrison was just 25 years old. In the May 4, 2025 episode of Sister Wives, Kody said,
“It's just heartbreaking... I didn’t get a chance to really just make things right—just not being able to say goodbye.”
He explained that disagreements over health rules during the pandemic had driven a wedge between them, and now he wonders if a phone call or visit could have changed what happened.
Kody Brown remembers planning the funeral with Garrison’s mother
After Garrison passed away, Kody Brown and his ex-wife Janelle talked about where to bury him. Kody said,
“I remember sitting there with Janelle and I was just going, 'Hey, I really just want to take my boy home'.”
They agreed to lay him to rest in Wyoming beside his grandmother, Cheryl. He thought that choice would bring comfort, but he still feels sad that he never said a proper goodbye in person.
Garrison faced private struggles before his death
Only Garrison’s close friends and roommates knew how hard things were for him. They said he battled depression and drank heavily at times. His mother, Janelle, shared that he went through periods of sobriety and relapse after the COVID-19 lockdowns.
On the night of March 4, Janelle messaged him late, and when he didn’t reply, his brother went to check on him the next morning. Sadly, they found he had taken his own life.
