Kai Cenat was recently involved in a controversy after he allegedly snubbed Wale at the BET Awards. He has now taken the time to address the elephant in the room by stating his innocence and claiming that he was unaware of the rapper's identity at the time when the event took place.
Cenat's statement comes days after he failed to acknowledge Wale at the awards show held recently, and this incident caught fire on social media as many took this as a sign of disrespect shown by the streamer towards Wale. Kai Cenat has now set the records straight, as he leaned on his inexperience for the alleged 'snub'. In the stream, he says:
"I’mma go ahead and say to Wale, I hope he didn’t take my interaction personal. How can you blame me from being who I am? You feel me? I’m young!"
He then proceeded to play the song Wale's song, Lotus Flower Bomb, which incidentally is the same song that was referenced by his friends at the BET Awards ceremony to stimulate his memory. It was an effort that had initially failed, as Cenat had remained oblivious to the song. But even while playing the song on his stream in an ode to Wale, he kept claiming that the song didn't ring a bell.
The Kai Cenat-Wale controversy
Kai Cenat and Wale's controversy stems from a recent awards ceremony, in which Cenat revealed to his chat that he had no idea about the rapper's identity after having a light-hearted encounter with him in the parking garage. All attempts made by his friends to spark a connection in Cenat's mind fell by the wayside, and the situation was further compounded by the streamer mispronouncing Wale's name.
The encounter caught the eyes of many people on social media, with many arguing for it to be a sign of disrespect. The rapid spread of the encounter eventually got to Wale as well, as he squared up to Cenat while he was sitting next to Snoop Dogg. He expressed his displeasure with the streamer by saying:
"That sh*t making me look crazy now, just so you know. That’s making me look crazy, the exchange we had in the hallway. I mean, they running with it, but we’ll talk later"
While it is not known if a meeting eventually took place after the event or not, Kai Cenat has now taken the first steps towards mending the bridge between himself and Wale. The oversight certainly caught fans by surprise, but it is also important to note that Cenat was all of 9 years of age when Lotus Flower Bomb first came out.
Cenat also went on to play one of Wale's songs on his stream and asked fans not to fuel theories about a possible beef between the two. With the streamer addressing the incident head-on, it also brings an end to a couple of days of intense speculation on social media.
