Gustavo Petro, the President of Colombia, spoke out about the recent deaths of two Colombian singers. These include Bayron Sánchez Salazar a.k.a. B-King and Jorge Luis Herrera Lemos a.k.a. DJ Regio Clown. Petro took to X to voice out the issue in Spanish, which roughly translates to:
"They murdered our youth in the United Mexican States. An international mafia strengthened by the stupid military and prohibitionist policy called the 'war on drugs,' which they force upon humanity and Latin America. More young people murdered by an anti-drug policy that is not an anti-drug trafficking policy."
The Mexican authorities are investigating the case as a homicide, while the Mexican Public Prosecutor's Office has managed to collect videos and testimonies leading them to suspect the singers were last seen within the state lines of Mexico. Gustavo Petro strongly believes that this is a case related to drug trafficking.
Whose help did Gustavo Petro seek to find the Colombian singers?
Gustavo Petro asked the Mexican President, Claudia Sheinbaum, to help find B-King and Regio Clown on Sunday. The two artists have been missing since September 16, and a day later, two bodies were found.
After hearing Gustavo Petro's requests, Sheinbaum addressed Gustavo's them during a press conference and announced that a search for them has begun.
B-King's last active social media presence was on September 15. He was in a dressing room, getting ready for a performance. As for Regio, he announced a show that he was performing with B-King on September 14 at the ElectroLab nightclub.
Where were B-King and Regio Clown last seen?
The two artists were last seen leaving a gym in the neighborhood of Polanco. They informed Juan Camilo Gallego, B-King's manager, that they were going to have lunch with Clown's acquaintances, without revealing the other person's identity, and disappeared thereafter.
According to Gallego:
"We were all staying at the same hotel. They left around noon. They arrived at the gym, uploaded videos inside, and after the conversation about lunch, communication was completely lost. They weren't getting their messages anymore. I waited until 7:30 p.m. to call them. Regio and B-King didn't get through. Suddenly, their cell phones turned off, and at that moment, I wasn't worried. It was midnight, 1 a.m., and the worry really hit me."
In another interview, B-King's manager explained in detail:
"We performed the concert on Sunday. We participated in the Regio show, and on Tuesday these events happened: B-King went to the gym in the Polanco area, at Smart Fit, I repeat, and then, in the afternoon, around 4:00 p.m., we lost communication completely, from that day until today."
Gustavo Petro condemned the killings, linking them to the failures of the war on drugs, and urged Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum to aid in the search for the missing singers. Their bodies were found, and the case is still under investigation.
