A cleaner from the Casa Sur hotel in Buenos Aires has claimed that singer Liam Payne’s death in October 2024 might have been prevented if an ambulance had been called sooner. The cleaner, who was also named Ezequiel David Pereyra, stated that Payne had fallen in the hotel lobby. Still, instead of receiving urgent medical care, he was transported back to his room. The story of Pereyra has brought the hotel's reaction to the spotlight and questioned whether the singer could have been saved.

Payne was drunk and acting out on the fateful night. The workers in the hotel were also quoted to have feared for his safety, particularly on the balcony in his room. The chronology of calls placed to medical services and the time lapse taken to respond to the call made by emergency services have become significant in investigations.

The authorities of Buenos Aires are still investigating what happened in his last hours.

According to The Sun, Ezequiel David Pereyra, the cleaner at Casa Sur, stated that when Liam Payne collapsed in the lobby, the personnel did not call an ambulance and instead took him to his room. Pereyra says that the employees thought that they could manage the situation in-house. This decision, he alleged, was the greatest mistake and cost Liam Payne his life.

The quote was made when Pereyra was in custody due to drug-related charges. Still, his version has been taken into consideration by the investigators as an aspect of the case. He stated that medical assistance could have been summoned promptly, which could have possibly helped Payne be treated on time. The cleaner also reported witnessing the deterioration of Payne's condition.

The singer's family and friends have expressed similar concerns. They think that the tragedy could have been avoided if medical attention had been quicker. Wales Online also reported that some of Payne's close associates were wondering why the hotel took a long time to call emergency services.

LBC revealed in a report, dated October 16, 2025, that the recording of emergency calls made after the incident showed that the hotel staff had contacted the police before requesting medical assistance. The initial call was already made when Liam Payne was already in a life-threatening condition, and emergency teams reached the scene when he fell off the balcony.

Local police are investigating the dates of the events and the hotel's response. Authorities are also looking at potential negligence and inefficiencies. There are at least two employees of the hotel who are still under investigation for their actions during the incident.

Investigators have also watched CCTV video and personnel testimony. The video was said to have verified that Payne was visibly unstable a few hours before his death. The key question under consideration is whether it would have been possible not to transfer him to the room and wait for the medical workers in a common space, to save a life.
