British royal family members, Kate Middleton and her husband Prince William, have reportedly welcomed new puppies into their household.
A source told The Sun that Kate and William’s cocker spaniel dog, Orla has given brith to four puppies. Noting that the royal couple’s three children - Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis - are thrilled with the news, the source shared with The Sun,
“Everyone loves a new royal baby news and so new royal puppies run very close…Everyone is very excited, not least the three children, who adore Orla”
Presently, it remains unclear whether Prince William and Kate Middleton will keep the pups or give them away.

While Buckingham Palace has yet to comment publicly on the birth of the Prince of Wales’ pet’s pups, Parade Magazine also quoted an insider as saying:
“The royal couple’s children are already said to have fallen in love with the black cocker spaniel’s pups.”
Over a month ago, William and Kate took to their official Instagram page to post a photograph of their pet Orla to mark the occasion of National Pet Day. Celebrating their beloved companion, the royal couple wrote:
“Celebrating the animals who bring so much joy, companionship and love to our lives this #NationalPetDay”
People Magazine reports that Orla was gifted to the royal family in 2020 by Kate Middleton’s brother, James Middleton.
Prince William and Kate Middleton mourned their previous dog, Lupo in 2020
Prince William and Kate Middleton were gifted another dog, Lupo, by Kate’s brother James Middleton after their wedding.
After spending more than a decade with the growing royal family, Lupo, also a cocker spaniel like Orla, passed away in 2020. The royal couple took to Instagram to mourn their beloved pet and wrote:
“Very sadly last weekend our dear dog, Lupo, passed away. He has been at the heart of our family for the past nine years and we will miss him so much. - W & C”
James also penned a touching tribute to the dog, whose mother, Ella, was still with him. Alongside a photograph of Lupo, James wrote:
“It is with great sadness that Lupo, the beloved dog of my sister Catherine and her family has passed away. Lupo was the son of Ella, brother to Zulu, Inka & Luna…There isn’t much of a rule book on how to grieve for a dog, but I’ve said a prayer, lit a candle and taken Ella (Mum) for a long walk to spend time remembering Lupo.”
The British royal family has a rich tradition of fostering pets
Queen Elizabeth II, Prince William’s grandmother, was known for her deep love for corgis and is said to have kept close to 30 corgis throughout her lifetime, as per Reader’s Digest. The publication notes that the Queen’s love for corgis began when she was gifted a dog named Susan by her father.

Royal historian Penny Junor told Reader’s Digest about the Queen’s love for corgis:
“Susan was really the beginning of the queen’s personal relationship with corgis that went on for the rest of her life.”
Apart from dogs, the royal family is known for having other animals as pets.
Prince William and Kate Middleton also have guinea pigs. Good To Know reported that during a trip to Woodgate Valley Urban Farm in 2024, Prince William revealed that he and his children also take care of guinea pigs, though the animals’ tendency to escape their cages leaves the task of cleaning up after them to him.
