The NFL's decision to select Bad Bunny as the headliner of the 2026 Super Bowl Halftime Show stirred an online debate and has now prompted a comment from President Trump. On September 28, the NFL announced that the Puerto Rican singer would be performing at the Halftime Show in Santa Clara, California, in February 2026.

Many had questioned the choice of the NFL, citing the singer's language and political views. The singer, however, clapped back at the criticism during his appearance on the October 4 episode of SNL. Amid the ongoing controversy, President Donald Trump also shared his thoughts on this while talking to NewsMax's host Greg Kelly on the phone.

On the October 6 episode of Greg Kelly Reports, the host mentioned that the NFL had chosen Bad Bunny, adding that the singer "hates ICE" and "doesn’t like" the President as well. Kelly further alleged that the Puerto Rican singer "accuses" anything he disagrees with of being racist. Responding to the news host, President Trump blasted the NFL for choosing Bad Bunny as the headliner for the 2026 halftime show.

"I've never heard of him,” Trump responded. “I don’t know who he is… I don’t know why they’re doing it. It’s crazy. And then they blame it on some promoter they hired to pick up entertainment — I think it’s absolutely ridiculous," Trump said.

Jennifer Lopez backed Bad Bunny's Super Bowl Halftime show performance

Amid backlash over the NFL's decision to choose Bad Bunny for performing at the halftime show, Jennifer Lopez defended the Puerto Rican singer, who sings primarily in Spanish. During her appearance on Monday's episode of the Today Show, the singer-actress said that Bunny's music transcends language and people would love his performance.

"I think he is about to blow everybody’s mind. It's an introduction to some people. He is one of the top artists in the world right now, probably the top... I am super excited for people to see him. I think they will be pleasantly surprised because his music transcends language... He has done something that a lot of people have never done in their life... I was excited when he performed with us at the Super Bowl and I’m excited to see what he does. He puts on a great show," JLo said.

Earlier, on October 4, the singer hosted SNL and clapped back at the criticism against him. In his monologue, the Grammy-winning singer made a sarcastic remark and said that "even Fox News" was happy with him performing at next year's Halftime Show. He wrapped up his monologue in Spanish and added a tongue-in-cheek zinger, saying,

"If you didn't catch what I just said, you have four months to get ready."

According to Variety, the conservative podcaster discussed Bad Bunny's Super Bowl show performance on his October 3 podcast with Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. During the conversation, Noem said that ICE would be "all over that place" at the stadium during the NFL Super Bowl.
