Astronomer’s CEO, Andy Byron, has become the subject of mockery following his Coldplay concert drama. As memes and discussions erupted across social media platforms, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) shared a post on X on July 19, seemingly taking a dig at the ongoing drama. They wrote:
“Just know our sides are always HR approved.”
Social media users had interesting reactions to the X post. Here’s what they wrote:
“Well played kfc,” a user posted.
“HR approved? My stomach filed a complaint,” a netizen quipped.
“I DID NOT EXPECT KFC TO WEIGH IN…LMAO,” an online commentator mentioned.
“Bringing HR into the chat is kinda wild,” another X user remarked.
Besides KFC, ESPN hosts Gary Striewski and Randy Scott also mocked Andy Byron and the woman he was seen with at the Coldplay concert by recreating the scene on the SportsCenter show.
Following the incident, Astronomer released a statement on X stating that Andy Byron has been put off duty. In Byron’s absence, Pete DeJoy will take over as the interim CEO. The statement read:
“Cofounder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy is currently serving as interim CEO given Andy Byron has been placed on leave. We will share more details as appropriate in the coming days.”
Astronomer also shared a statement highlighting that they always followed the values and culture they started with, and their leaders were expected to act responsibly. They also clarified that Alyssa Stoddard was not at the event, no other employees appeared in the video, and contrary to the reports, Andy Byron had not made any statement.
Grace Springer was the person behind the video of Astronomer’s Andy Byron and Kristin Cabot at the Coldplay concert
For the unversed, the video on the jumbotron showing Astronomer's Andy Byron with Kristin Cabot was captured by a Coldplay fan, Grace Springer. She posted the video online. Sharing a statement with The Sun on July 18, she said her intention was never to cause such a stir. She added:
“I had no idea who the couple was. Just thought I caught an interesting reaction to the kiss cam and decided to post it. A part of me feels bad for turning these people’s lives upside down, but, play stupid games… win stupid prizes.”
Grace Springer went on:
“I hope their partners can heal from this and get a second chance at the happiness they deserve with their future still in front of them.”
Grace Springer said she hoped her video turned out to be a hidden blessing for them. She mentioned that at first, it was a small topic and not many people knew about it.
When she posted it late at night, it only had a few thousand views, but by the time she woke up, it had already reached seven million, and later it went over 30 million. She said she felt overwhelmed.
When Cabot was hired by Astronomer in 2024, the company shared a statement in which Andy Byron said that Kristin was a great leader with a lot of experience in managing people, keeping employees happy, and helping companies grow.
He explained that she had already shown her skills at other growing companies and that her love for creating diverse and friendly workplaces made her a great match for Astronomer.
