Uche Ojeh, the husband of the Today show co-host Sheinelle Jones, has died. He was 45 years old and was battling brain cancer for some time before passing away on May 23, 2025. He had a type of brain cancer called glioblastoma, an aggressive type of brain tumor. Uche Ojeh's death was announced during a touching moment on the Today show. The hosts shared their sadness and expressed support for Sheinelle and her family.

Uche Ojeh and Sheinelle Jones were married for 17 years. They met while studying at Northwestern University and had been together ever since. They had three children together, a son, Kayin, and twins, Uche and Clara. Sheinelle had taken time away from work earlier this year citing she needed to focus on a personal family matter.

Uche Ojeh was a strong man and had a loving family

Uchechukwuka Adenola Ojeh, better known as Uche Ojeh, spent his final days in hospice care. Even in pain, he showed strength and grace. Friends said Uche Ojeh was peaceful and calm, and stayed hopeful until the end. During the May 23 broadcast, Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie spoke directly to viewers and said,

"There are no words for the pain we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children. Uche was an incredible person. We all loved him. And so we want to take a moment to tell you more about the remarkable man who was Sheinelle’s perfect partner in life"

Uche had a career in consulting and was a managing partner at his firm, UAO Consulting. Even while working hard, he always made time for his family. Sheinelle often spoke warmly about her husband in interviews over the years. She said they had a strong relationship and that Uche was her best friend. She also said he always encouraged her to follow her dreams.

The couple met in college in the late 1990s. After eight years of dating, Uche proposed during a rainstorm on their old campus. They married in Philadelphia in 2007 and raised their family there. Their son Kayin was born in 2009, and then in 2012, they had twins, a boy and a girl.

Uche's demise and condolence messages from notable figures

Earlier this year, in January 2025, Sheinelle told viewers that she would be away from the third hour of her show. She did not say why at the time. Uche’s illness was not known to the public. After his passing, many friends, coworkers, and fans shared messages of support. They sent kind words and prayers to Sheinelle and her children.

Many shared how much they admired Sheinelle and Uche’s relationship. They said it was clear how much love they had for each other and their family. Sheinelle has not made a full public statement yet, but her team has thanked everyone for the kind words and support.
