On May 29, 2025, Tory Lanez’s legal team has reportedly released new audio and video footage related to the 2020 shooting incident involving Megan Thee Stallion. They also shared a 35-page presentation that could prove Lanez's innocence.

The materials were made public through a website called 36hourslater.com, which the team says was created to provide full transparency. As per reports, the legal team believes that key evidence was overlooked during the trial that led to Lanez’s 10-year prison sentence.

One significant piece of this newly-shared evidence centers on testimony from Sean Kelly. A hot97 report stated that the only eyewitness told authorities he saw,

“the girls fighting”

He insisted it was woman who fired the gun, not a man.

Tory Lanez has said he is innocent since the start of the case, although he was convicted in December 2022 on three felony charges related to the incident of the shooting. His attorneys are now claiming his innocence by presenting fresh piece of information. They argue that the timeline and physical evidence don’t support the conviction. Lanez’s team hopes this public release will not only shift public opinion but also reignite legal efforts to appeal the verdict.

New twists in Tory Lanez shooting case

As per Vulture, the legal team fighting for Tory Lanez, held a press conference on May 14, 2025. They claimed that Kelsey Harris, not Lanez, had fired the gun. Walter Roberts, the lead consultant in this case also pointed on a statement from Bradley James, who is Kelsey Harris’s former bodyguard. Apparently, James said he heard Harris admitting that she fired the gun.

As per the team, Tory Lanez was just trying to stop the fight and put the gun down and, in that process, two shots were fired, which was completely accidental.

A bodycam footage from the night of the incident was retrieved and circulated on social media. The footage shows Megan Thee Stallion saying,

"Ma’am, do you think we gon go to jail?... I really cannot go to jail... I cannot have that on my image... glass... I didn’t get shot, no sir..."

Reactions and ongoing debate

Megan Thee Stallion posted a TikTok video on May 19, where she said,

“YOU SHOT ME !! Ain’t no new fucking evidence yall been saying the same shit for years.”

As per BBC, the incident happened on July 12, 2020, after a party at Kylie Jenner’s house. An argument broke out, and Megan says Lanez shot her in the foot when she tried to leave the car.

As per NPR, she needed surgery to remove bullet fragments. At first, Megan told police she stepped on glass because she was scared. Later, she said Lanez shot her. Kelsey Harris gave mixed statements, but in a recorded interview, she said Lanez was the shooter. A neighbor, Sean Kelly, said he saw a woman firing a gun but also saw Lanez acting aggressively. The jury finally found Lanez guilty of shooting Megan.
